Congrats on breaking free of the CHS cult.

It’s a good school, and Coach Fertitta is a good man. They do a good job over there. We have mixed feelings about his wanting to switch. So we decided to just pray about it, and at least look into it. Whatever God’s will is.......

Hope you have an "in" to get into U High i.e. knowing people on the LSU Board of Supervisors. There are 100 spots per grade, and 500 applications for those spots each kindergarten class. There isn't much attrition because the school is highly regarded, yet half the cost of Catholic or Parkview tuition wise.

We do. We have a few.

Something that I actually think could work against us though- Our oldest was accepted there for Kindergarten, but we decided to send her to a Catholic school instead. I don’t know if turning down the “highly regarded” U High would count against us or not.

I agree with OP's son. Not going to school with girls would be weird. And not letting priests marry isn't natural. Sorry if this triggered any Catholics on here. Most of my friends are Catholic

Why would you want to send to a pair of schools that are worse?

You sound like a shite dad.

Your residence determines what attendance zone you are in.

From what I understand the zones are drawn up by the LHSAA. I believe they are the public school districts.

For instance my son lived in the Woodlawn zone. That meant he could go to Parkview or St Michael and stay in his zone. But if he wanted to go to CHS he would not be eligible for varsity unless he sat out a year.

But the best advice is to call the LHSAA and tell them your circumstances.

Good luck.

Your kid can’t fit in at Catholic, so you want to send him to Uhigh? FYI, it’s not any different except that they have girls there. But if your son had any game he’d be able to meet girls without going to school with them. Also Uhigh has even better depth on their football team, your son won’t play there if he can’t play at Catholic He could have a better chance of both at Parkview, but Parkview is a shitty school

I’m open to considering what he wants. This isn’t about me.

He fits in just fine. He has a lot of friends and makes good grades, stays out of trouble etc. when it comes to girls, though, He definitely has no game. Lol
But I’m ok with that. He gets asked to the sweetheart dances etc. He nice looking. He’s pretty shy though. But He can date in college.

He plays SOME. but there’s a whole position thing that complicated things. Something about the position he played in junior high not even being a position at Catholic. I don’t understand it all. I won’t pretend to know football. I don’t. I know he was really good in junior high - his name on the speaker all the time etc. Coach wiener approached him after one of his 8th grade games. He started his whole freshman year at Catholic.....
As a mom who knows nothing about football- I’m assuming that what i listed above means he’s good enough to play somewhere decent?? And I’m pretty sure parkview and U high aren’t as good as CHS - not this year at least, right?

Anyway, we aren’t those parents who try to tell coaches what to do etc. there’s more to life than sports. I just don’t want him to not be on a team. I think it’s good for boys to be on a team. However, It’s a lot of time and work - practice 6 days a week and 5 days a week in the summer starting at 7am. It’s year round

I can see where it would be frustrating to put all that work and time into something and not be able to play.

So i “get it” if he loves the sport and wants to try it somewhere else. He’s not kicking and screaming about it. He just brought it up once. Then we all discussed it together a few days after he brought it up. So We are just looking into things.....

EducationWise- I think all 3 schools offer a good enough education to prepare kids for LSU.

I know you didn't mention Episcopal, but based on what you said your son would be an immediate starter there with a solid chance to play both ways(starting on offense and defense). The school is co-ed and the academics are well above U-High and Parkview.

LOL not the case at all...the admins (principal and ad) will fight every transfer out of there. If you are not good enough for football, they want you to play lacrosse, wrestle, track, frisbee etc...they don’t want to lose students and decrease their alumni base.

- if this is definitely going to happen do it now, midterm, absolutely no reason to wait until the end of the year

- never, ever mention it has anything at all, not even 1% due to athletics, even when talking to lhsaa...just go with, the school is too big, y’all are moving or something along those lines

- Chs will most likely challenge the move with lhsaa , be prepared

- pbs was young last year, mayet knew that and got the young kids varsity experience, it will be hard to steal playing time from those kids, especially if you transfer in the summer and miss the spring workouts

- uhigh is graduating a lot of kids and could maybe use some more help, but they obviously still have some capable players doubtful your son would get meaningful minutes until he is a senior

- May want to consider episcopal and Dunham

He’s interested in 2 schools where the competition will be very similar to Catholic. You may want to check out Episcopal or Dunham. Both have pretty good teams but aren’t on the Catholic/Lab School/ parkview level.

This is not true at all. It will depend on attendance zones. One side of Acadian is McKinley and one side is Tara, so you could literally be .10 mile from chs and not be in their attendance zone

I don't know what it's like now, but when I went to Catholic in the early 90's, we had classes at SJA and they had classes at Catholic. We were around girls from the academy all the time. It's not like you go to Catholic High and it's sausage fest 24/7, 365. You are around students from the academy during and after school.

If you can't pull any pussy from the SJA girls, then something's wrong. I'm far from anything special and I was able to do it.

I don’t know their situation but I sure as hell wouldn’t pay $20,000 for my kid to go to school there. I’d just send my kid to Southern Lab if I were you
