There's no replacement for displacement.
Smaller displacement, fewer cylinder, higher output engines introduce more frequent maintenance and higher repair costs that stealerships favor.

We're getting to the point where they won't even make them anymore soon. Or you'll pay a 5k climate change tax to get one even though the gas mileage is only marginally different.

Truly sad times we live in. V8s and pickup trucks just go together.

sucks but at least he gets a loaner for while it's in the shop

Only after he pitched a fit and called whoever is above that dealership. They originally told him they had no loaner for him to use.

No bullshite. 6-8 weeks to fix and they had no loaner. I don't know how he got it rectified, but it went from 6-8 weeks with no loaner to 6-7 days with a loaner. There was some frickery afoot.

turbo charged 4 cylinder engine in a full size truck?

When I was shopping for my truck in 2021, out of pure curiosity I test drove a turbo 4 cylinder Silverado. Went one block and came back laughing at how pathetic its performance was. Why anyone would buy one is beyond me.

I ended up buying a 2021 Ram 1500 Bighorn with the V8 5.7 eTorque a few days later.

2019 F150 super crew, LWB, Coyote 5.0 V8 - 22-23 mpg on the interstate - 20-21 mpg around town - 15-16 mpg towing boat - no reason to risk dealing w/complexity/cost of turbo.

Friend of mine got one of those ecoboost Fords… kept it for less than a year and got the v8.

I guess if you just need a truck, it’s fine. If you need to use it like a truck or expect to have any giddyup when loaded, don’t hope for much.

I have the 3.0 Duramax and I fricking love it.

Hauls normal shite and gets 18-20 mpg doing it.

Weekly work commute is 81 miles round trip daily at an avg mpg of 26 ish.

Best recorded was a trip from San Antonio to Lake Charles at 37mpg. The trip avg speed of 72 on I-10

Earlier F150 2.7 eco boost.
2015, 2017, 2019
Leases them as company trucks under a fleet program.
Had 22 company trucks between 5 locations swapped out every 2 years.
They were good and gas and decent power.

Draw back everyone had to have turbos replaced right before 100,000 mile trade in. Sweet spot was 80k to 90k. Oil changes were done $7,000 miles as dealers gave me a discount vs using Goodyear or regional shop.

Just sold my 2013 ram 5.7L

220k miles, no repairs but was starting to show its age

Loved the truck. I certainly feel I got my $22k worth when I bought it in 2015

There are a lot of 2022 and 2023 2.7 turbo Silverados on the used car lots. Dealer said baws didn’t feel like they could tow for shite.

Edit: the 2.7 turbo Trail Boss is the Buck Angel of pickups. Looks bad arse on the outside but has a pussy when you get under the hood.
