No it has certainly not been the best feeling, hardest when my kids ask me where I am going to work next.

Being laid off is underrated in its awfulness. Especially as the days go by and things aren’t improving.

I’ve lost my job twice and both times landed in much better situations. You’ll get through it.

Highly recommend DoorDash or UberEats if you can do your own car maintenance and have a small, fuel efficient vehicle that you don’t care about putting miles on.

I’ve been doing it for the past 6 weeks after I lost my job and it’s helped make ends meet. I started my new job this week and I’ve been enjoying the food delivery so much I’ve continued to do it in the evenings.

Not my field but is that a job that can be done remotely? Have you looked into companies outside the State even if you aren't willing to move? Lots of firms are willing to do remote (or remote with 10-20% travel) for the right candidate, even if they don't openly advertise it. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Play video games.

Spend 3 hours at the gym.

Create your own company where you make 4x your previous salary.

Albermarle?

You mentioned kids so relocating might not necessarily be an option or an easy one but expanding the search will help.

Good luck.

Been laid off twice.

First time I was single and got 4 months severance. I went backpacking in Europe and did a bunch of drugs.

Second time I was married with a kid and busted arse to find a new job. Ended up only being idle for a month or so.

If you have a degree, forget about it

Though odds are I’ve probably applied

Get on LinkedIn and connect with as many recruiters in your field as possible and message them a letter of interest and include your resume.

This is the best time to get a job elsewhere and get out of shitehole BR. Lots of controller, finance mgr positions in Denver.

Shake your head but there is truth to it.

I made it through several realignments and regime changes except for the last one. Fish out of water with the new group of higher management, all elevated tradesmen from offshore who wanted their ppl in all the critical spots. I was the only one who had been to college and they poked at it endlessly even though I was pushing 40 and they were all in their 40’s and 50’s. Constantly fixated on field related things that I didn’t know and certainly uninterested in sharing any knowledge.

Spend one day just getting fricked up and listening to music. I’ll take a day off and go with you. I don’t even care anymore.

Im not disagreeing with his premise of there being more blue collar jobs than white collar. I’m disagreeing with his offshore scenario.

You need to be somewhere that values you education as well as your skills. La apparently isn’t it.

But blue collar workers need jobs too, so La has its niche. You’re just not in it apparently

Get some things done around the house. Go fishing. Visit parents. Start a new hobby. Cut neighbors yards. Wash your wife’s vehicle

Next real job was a couple of years later and did drug test. I took that break to go back to school and finish my accounting degree.
