Which one and why? Does it even matter?

If your doing an island, then why not both. We did a dark granite for the countertops and light quartz for an island and it turned out great.

All I know is if you ever have any damage to cabinetry underneath granite, you better be very careful working around the granite.

I don’t know much about Quartz.

100% quartz. Never needs to be sealed and indestructible. If you do butcher block seal it with waterlox.

Granite is not far from quartz though... either is a good decision.

Got kids? Quartz. It’s less likely to be damaged when they start throwing things or beating on the edge of the countertop with something. I’ve got two boys and went with quartz for this specific reason. It’s amazing how many times I’ve had to tell them to stop hitting each other with sticks/swords/light sabers/whatever and they periodically whack the shite out of everything.

I have white quartz in my new house after I remodeled the kitchen.

My old house has granite, which isn’t bad aside from sealing it. You don’t have to but then it becomes a germ hotbed. There are some cleaners out there specifically for granite/stone which is supposed to act as a mini seal when you clean.

granite cracks easier and is not as durable as quartz. The price points are usually pretty similar. Granite and Quartz are both high end countertops.

Has the price of quartz gone up dramatically? When I did mine the quartz and granite were very close to the same price. I don’t recall there being a big difference and neither were particularly expensive.
