No other counter top medium can offer the color possibilities, custom design features, mass-thickness(2 inches or more thick, cold to the touch like real stone, and durability- especially with today's advance sealers.

I've been pricing it for a month at different places and quartz is usually about $10 to $15 more a square foot. Not a big difference but still a difference. I just like the granite look better for some reason. To each his own I guess. And for the record I drive a Dodge 2500 I was just trying to be OT cool with F250 comment.

I personally don’t care for quartz, I think it looks cheap.
You can find some really cool granite with different veining.
Granite can stain but only if you don’t stay on top cleaning it off.
Do not let anyone talk you into marble.

We chose Quartzite for the counters and backsplash, I will say I've heard lots of stories and know people who have bought quartzite only to find out its actually marble, you've really got to check it closely.
Good and real quartzite is similar in characteristics to granite. Granite is still easiest to know what you're getting and not have to worry about damaging it, but a lot of it looks pretty dated these days.

This can be very confusing. There are certain stones that can be both a marble and a quartzite and come from the same quarry just from different areas of the quarry. An example is Super White which is very popular right now. Some slabs of Super white are a quartzite and some are a marble though they look the same.

People in this thread are confusing quartz and quartzite.
Quartz is man made in a form and is about the same price as most granites.
Quartzite is a natural stone and is much more expensive then granite.

Why I brought up the 'Monzonite' stuff up which is apparently just below granite in strength, and a quartz mix...?...found out in Utah. It came up yrs ago when I was looking into granite tops as it was apparently cheaper, but not knowing about it made me nervous. Also, hard to find much on it being used other than the Mormon Church in SLC.

I never said you couldnt crack a slab of granite easier. Maybe you could learn to read before you spread bullshite. I did say its easy to seal granite, thats not an opinion. You literally wipe the stuff on wait 5 minutes and wipe it off. If thats difficult to you then you might be a fricking retard. They do make sealants that last more than a year, they just arent the cheap shite you would buy obviously. While you can break granite easier you can scratch quartz easier. You can also burn quartz. None of this is opinion. I also have had a 12" overhang without "brakcets" at my kitchen bar on my granite tops for years without an issue. I'd bet you probably dont have either much less both in your home.

We went with quartz. Durable. Attractive. Easily kept clean. Resistant to staining. We have some left that's going into the soon to be island.

I think maybe you're thinking of quartzite? I have quartz and it was around the same price as granite, if not a little cheaper.
The quartz I have is really solid. It's a little heavier than granite and not porous at all. No maintenance required and doesn't stain. The only drawback is that you allegedly can't put hot stuff directly on it.

I put quartz into a house 10 years ago for all the logical reasons. And it was never a problem. And it always looked second rate to me (compared to granite).
When I built a new house 4 years ago I used granite for all the counter tops. And I love how it looks and it's never been a problem.
Actual quarried rock >>> slab of plastic made to look like rock.
