My thing with perpetually late people is the reason they’re late is always because they didn’t care. They were still laying around at home watching TV or scrolling Instagram at the time I’m walking out the door. They text that they’re leaving their house when I just sat at the restaurant. They show up 20m later with Starbucks.

I just don’t get what great relief they get out of 20 more minutes of Instagram time. It can’t be much.

I am extremely judging of that type of lateness. It is rude. Also not texting/calling to say you will be late is annoying af.
I will absolutely stop making plans with people who are ridiculous with it all the time for no reason.

What is the point of having a scheduled time if you're telling me that arriving at that time makes one late?

The meaning behind it is if your work schedule starts at 7am, then do not walk in at 7. Or, if it takes you 10 minutes to pour a cup of coffee, small talk, then get to work, you better be more than 10 minutes early. WORK starts at 7.

See. Makes perfect sense.

I’m talking about professional situations not social events.

Perpetually late people aren’t late because they don’t care. It’s a massive burden for them. They’re late because they can’t mentally estimate time. It’s the same as people who can’t hit a target to save their life because they can’t mentally judge distance/space.

Why do you have to bring your wife into it?

I get the feeling that a lot of yall have a partner because it was forced on you by family. Because boy it seems like yall hate them.

To answer the question, I'd say 8-9. I'm always on time, as I get older I get more relaxed. In my early twenties I'd be 15 minutes early everywhere. Now as long as I show up 5 minutes early I'm good. I don't want to be in a situation where I'm going to have to deal with someone who gets pissy about not being 10+ minutes early.

11. Growing up I heard it from my parents and grandparents. In the military you were NEVER late for a damn thing or bad things happened.

Those two heavy influences, combined with being respectful of other people's time mean I am on time and on target plus or minus 30 seconds.

For most of my life it has been a 10 both ways. But now that I am married with kids and a plethora of responsibilities it’s about a 7. As long as myself or someone else is not selling out it’s fine with me, as long as there are updates of ETA.

We are a very busy society.

Being late shows disrespect to other people. It’s basically saying that your time isn’t important.
