Wow, yes we used the term in Shreveport 50 years ago. I have not heard that in many years.

We called it doubling in the 70s and 80s whether it was handled bars, seat or pegs.

My uncles and brother pumped me several times.

What’s it called when you “pump” one on the handle bars and ride another on the back pegs?
Posted on 3/27/25 at 5:41 pm to HoopyD
I’d always offer to “pump some one from the back” if they needed a ride.
They always decided to call their mom to be picked up though. I guess they were just really safety conscious?

Also if your bike had pegs on the back tires.

I was always the pumper and never the pumper.

Pegging the pumper.

We called it “hop on my handle bars” or “give me a ride home on your handle bars.”
Although I feel like I have heard someone use the term before and I used deductive reasoning to figure out with the fella was saying. But no one I knew ever said 'pump'

Growing up in New Iberia in the 80's this was a standard term used all the time. Like others have said, I haven't heard or thought about that in 35 or 40 years....

Didn’t realize that wasn’t everywhere. Said it in NLA and Oklahoma
Posted on 3/27/25 at 6:08 pm to HoopyD
We just had people get on the pegs on the back of the bike.

In Stonewall in the 80’s as a kid, that’s what we called it!
Posted on 3/27/25 at 6:28 pm to HoopyD
I remember hearing that but I never offered or took a ride when it was referenced that way.

I haven't heard that term in decades, but yes, it was a term used when I grew up in BTR.
