So where does the money go?
Currently, one third of my property taxes goes to the EBRPSS but we’re in private school.

Currently, one third of my property taxes goes to the EBRPSS but we’re in private school.
Your state taxes will also not decrease - they will reallocate to the public schools that increase enrollment, or to private schools via voucher programs.

Ask the legislature. Public schools have over 40,000 less students in Louisiana since 2017. I'm assuming the over 200 million that represents went somewhere else. Perhaps it went to the one time stipends of 2000/1000 that the legislature has been giving to districts or the 30 million in high dosage tutoring and/or the differentiated compensation plan added to the MFP.
The only way this state gets better is to pull people out of poverty, most tried and true way to do that is through education and I would hope even private school parents would see that improving public school outcomes helps everyone.

Hell, they aren't even allowed to walk across the damn parking lot to their parent's car. Soft.

Private schools use public buses
Cost of maintaining school systems haven’t gotten any cheaper in today’s economy
Tariffs and inflationary costs are making building maintenance and renovations way more expensive

Yes. It's basically free money for them, and they still waste it and ask for more.

It's enrollment based, but once a budget is set for a school year, if 5% of the expected students don't show up on the first day, they do not sent 5% of that year's funds back to the state or feds.

Nope. Schools receive public funding based on the number of students enrolled. They don't get a surplus from a lower enrollment, they get less funding.
That “public funding” is state funding. They get 100% of the property tax collected for that school district - no matter what the enrollment is.

Property taxes are a complete FRAUD. Always dispute the amount they say you owe because it's always based on a lie.

They are stealing from you. They pay themselves and the bloated administrative level filled with nepotism and favors.

The lunch program is federally run, so really no savings there.
DOGE would have a fkn field day where I'm at! The cafeteria workers force kids to take a certain amount of items, even if the kids say they don't want or like something.
I'd estimate 30% gets thrown out and wasted (not counting items that end up on the floor). I'm not talking about scoops of actual food, but prepackaged items that could definitely be used by someone somewhere (or just not purchased to being with). It's infuriating.
Then the kids bitch - about being fed breakfast AND lunch - free of charge.

Vote for candidates that support school choice.

My mother was a public school teacher in the early 70s. They were animals then and animals now. Nothing has changed for the better in 50+ years and it won’t get better in the next 50 years. The culture is crap and the parents don’t care.
I actually consider it child abuse to send your kid to a public school in BR not withstanding a couple of the magnet schools and even then those are not what they used to be.
Tighten your belt and send your kids to private school if you care even just a little bit about their future. You don’t need to eat out as much or have season LSU tickets. You will survive.

Bruv. You may not be aware of this, not living in a non-shithole state, but out here in non-shithole states, we have something called school choice, which means we get tax breaks towards the school of our choice. Yes, we pay for private, but our mandatory contribution to a system we don't use is reduced.
