YMMV.
Extended family have three of them that are all in the 2008-2010 range.
Sorrento is racked out but it has 120k or more miles on it.
Santa Fe hasn’t gotten many miles but has been abused like hell and still works fine.
Tucson has been in and out with issues over the years including door problems. The big issue tends to be them not having the right parts to fix it IIRC.

Except when you have a 2016 Tuscon and the engine, radiator and fan belt all fail simultaneously. And of course it would be at 62,000 miles, just over the warranty. Just a mess.
I think their powertrain warranties are 100,000 miles, right?

HAHA. You bought a f'n KIA.

Modern BMWs are actually some of the most expensive and most frustrating cars to keep on the road. Maybe not a good comparison.
I don't even think Kia/Hyundai is par with Nissan, Mazda, or the American companies from a reliability standpoint. Definitely far behind Toyota or Honda in that respect.
What Hyundai and Kia do very well now is styling. They definitely put effort into their product's design and it shows.

Leaning Volkswagen Atlas at the moment
Out of the frying pan and right into the huge furnace.
If you are risk-averse regarding issues/repairs get a Toyota Highlander but replacing a Kia with a VW Atlas because you want a reliable/dependable car is mental.

What IS covered by the warranty?
Quick Google Search
CARCHEX

What Does the Kia Factory Warranty Cover?
When you purchase a new car from the Kia dealership, it comes with a limited Kia factory warranty. Like most auto warranties, the coverage lasts a certain number of years or miles, whichever comes first.
In what they call their 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program, Kia warranties include:
10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty—Covering the engine, transmission, transaxle, and other powertrain system parts, this Kia drivetrain warranty lasts longer than what most car manufacturers offer.
5-year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty—This is a comprehensive, bumper-to-bumper warranty, meaning that it covers most parts of your car, with a short list of exceptions.
5-year/100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty—This warranty covers rust or other types of corrosion on your new Kia.
5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance—This Kia vehicle warranty includes emergency roadside assistance and trip interruption services.
New Kia vehicles also include limited warranties for service adjustments, original equipment battery, paint, audio/entertainment, and replacement parts and accessories for 3 years/36,000 miles. Your emission control systems are also protected through the Federal and California emissions warranties. Terms vary based on the part and what state you’re in, but they range from 2 years/24,000 miles to 15 years/150,000 miles.
What’s Not Covered Under Kia’s Warranty?
On first glance, what Kia offers may look like it includes everything—especially with its industry-leading powertrain warranty—but it doesn’t. Kia factory warranties don’t cover damage from these situations:
Vehicle misuse
Accidents or collisions
Theft or vandalism
Environmental elements, such as hail, tree sap, floods, road salt, etc.
Normal deterioration or “wear and tear” from regular use
Window glass scratches, chips, or breaks
Lack of or improper maintenance
And more

Same with my 2014 Sorento. Cruise buttons stopped working, so they replaced the steering wheel under warranty. Right before the warranty was up, the volume buttons on the steering wheel stopped working so they replaced it a 2nd time. Now out of warranty, all the buttons on the steering wheel don't work and the horn is 50/50. Luckily it's paid off and I like having no car payment over functioning buttons.
I don't know why but I got a chuckle out of this.
But anyway, it is my understanding that KIA and Hyundai share a whole lot of components, so not sure you'd save yourself any grief by getting a Hyundai.
My wife drives a 2014 Santa Fe Sport. She likes to run her cars until they die a horrible death, and so far this Hyundai has been ok. No huge problems at 70K. Broken drivers door electric lock, and sometimes the car decides it needs to lock the doors 5 times in a row when hitting the lock button. Overall not bad.

2016 was before their "rebirth". I think the 2020/2021 models are getting much higher grades across the board
Better grades because a ‘20 or ‘21 is practically brand new. Let it age another 365 days and regrade it.

Hyundai is a better Korean car company.
You do realize that most of the components are shared between Hyundai and Kia, similar to how Ford paired with Mazda, Chevrolet with Isuzu, or BMW with Toyota. They produce the same product with different styling elements.

Well shite. Back to the drawing board lol. Had a Highlander before the Kia. At this point, I don’t think the wife cares what it is as long as it’s quality. Have no prob going back to Toyota & only got as far as “it looks great” with the VW. Did kinda assume is was good cause it was a VW. Thought they were always highly regarded for safety and rely?

There was a recall for KIA engines Sometime around then. Look into it, they may owe you an engine.

That’s half the price of a Toyota Landcruiser
And for $48k you can easily find a well maintained used Landcruiser or Lexus LX that'll last much longer than that brand new KIA will.
