PSA: KIA is what we thought they were...a POS

Background:
2016 KIA Sorento SXL
60,000 miles
10yr/100k mile warranty (not sure on what still)
Exact Car
My wife loved the car when we first bought it. Has all the bells and whistles of a 2016 car. By 40k we started having a few issues. Nothing major, just little things
1. Cruise Control: sometimes you press the button and it comes on, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes after it comes on, it’ll let you set the speed, sometimes it doesn’t.
2. Back Hatch Door: It opens by button. Sometimes it’ll open, sometimes it unlatches & immediately latches back. Over and over
3. Sunroof: It has the big full window, panoramic whatever sunroof. Hasn’t worked right in 30k miles. Had to pay them $140 just to diagnose it. Diagnosis: “nothing wrong. You need to lube it sometimes”. Wanted to do it for a charge. I’ve never lubed a sunroof in my life. I think the real problem is they put a shite motor in to move that big glass. As it closes, it gets slower and stops like a battery getting low. Have to muscle it the rest of the way
4. A/C: only blows cold air when dial is set @ “Max cold”. If you turn the dial to 65°, it blows room temp air. This started @ 30k
And now the big one
5: Oil leak: it’s currently sitting at the Seigen location for a leak that started as a drip and has become huge in a couple weeks. Just got the call that it’s due to the oil pressure switch and something else....$1000
Not a single one of these things was covered under this 10yr/100k mile warranty.
1-4, individually, are relatively minor...but when you realize they aren’t covered under warranty on a car that is currently only at 60k(and they all started 30-40k in) and they start piling up, you get a little concerned. So we said “this thing is gone before we hit this 100k threshold”. Then we get this oil leak. Soooo...
TL:DR - Don’t be fooled by their fancy new gadgets and nice looking vehicles...KIA is still KIA. Sell you a nice looking car that doesn’t last and nickel and dime you to death to make themselves a fortune at the service department. Trading it in by the end of the month
OH, 1 more point...
Residual Value: Brand new the MSRP was 41 or 43k...60k miles....Est trade is 14-16k. Maybe that’s normal for an SUV, idk. But that seems terrible to me
So for all of you that see that Telluride and think “man, that’s a nice vehicle for a decent price”....IT’S STILL A KIA

Tellurides are awesome.
Also - 2016 was before their "rebirth". I think the 2020/2021 models are getting much higher grades across the board.
No, I don't own a Kia, but I've definitely paid attention to the Tellurides because of how good they look and their reviews.
I'm a Toyota guy FWIW.

Hyundai is a better Korean car company.

I don't have one, I just keep up with the car world.
Kia 2016 vehicles =/= Kia 2021 vehicles

My service guy hates working on KIAs. That told me all I needed to know honestly.

Sorry you have issues. The oil leak should be covered by the 10/10 warranty. The other stuff sounds like an overall electrical issue, and should also be covered.
I own 3 KIAs. One is a 2014, one a 2015 and one a 2020. No major issues with any of them. Worst thing to happen is a door handle literally fell off the 2015 Sorento.
Took it to the dealer and it was fixed in less than an hour at no charge to me.
Again, sorry for your bad experience, but it doesn't match mine.

I’m sure this car just had the bad luck to get the only bad sunroof, AC, have electrical issues, and spring an oil leak all before 60k. They just have hated this car

Not according to them

That’s fair. And I wouldn’t blast them if the problems weren’t so unrelated

Another point. I know this is common now but they make it dam near impossible to do any simple maintenance on your own. My oil change guys couldn’t even begin to tell me where the leak was coming from because the whole bottom of the car is covered
Posted on 1/12/21 at 11:59 am to Schmelly
Should have gotten a honda or toyota

What IS covered by the warranty?
