Try buying a used Subaru and you will find out all you need to know about them. They keep their value for a reason.

Residual Value: Brand new the MSRP was 41 or 43k...60k miles....Est trade is 14-16k. Maybe that’s normal for an SUV, idk. But that seems terrible to me

We had a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe and ran into the resale issue last year. It's why I steered away from the two highly rated Kia and Hyundai options when looking at a new vehicle. Even though we were fully satisfied with the Hyundai, it didn't make sense to pay the same cost now for a vehicle that likely won't hold its value like the one we chose.

You responded to me. I have a TDI with zero issues. YMMV.

We went brand new because even a 5 year old Crosstrek was only a few thousand cheaper.

Issue 2 - Recently heard a knock in the engine. Brought it to the dealer at 110k miles and Kia replaced the motor and gave us a free rental for the 10 days it was in the shop.

And you’re actually considering getting another? Really?

And now the big one 5: Oil leak: it’s currently sitting at the Seigen location for a leak that started as a drip and has become huge in a couple weeks. Just got the call that it’s due to the oil pressure switch and something else....$1000

lol I have a BMW that I had a right valve cover job done for more than a thousand. I still have visible oil leaks from another source that I don't even care about anymore. I just put a quart in every 30 days or so. And I intermittently have smoke from the exhaust after idle, which I think is from an oil seal leak somewhere but again, I'm just gonna ride it til it dies. Fun car but a nightmare.

We strongly considered a tricked out Telluride for the Mrs. They look pretty badass. We settled on a Cadillac Xt6. I guess we made a better choice.

Cadillac is ranked dead last or near last most long term reliability lists. I doubt the residual value will be any better.

You ran into this issue because there is a class action lawsuit with the engines in these cars. All of them will eventually blow unless the bearings are replaced. Hyundai should cover this for you.

Also how much residual did you want in a 8yo SUV with new car rates at historic lows??

Truth told most cars have their own problems. My significant other had a rear differential go out on her 2k mile 8 series bmw last month.

BMW took care of it. That's the important thing.

The only thing they really improved was their advertising.

Sounds like you bought a lemon. We had a Sedona for 11 years and 138K miles. Never had that many issues.
