I remember one of my black friends going through rush into one of the black frats. He came to class one morning, wearing sunglasses and makeup to cover up the bruises, and was dressed in a jacket and pants, even though it was warm outside. Dude could barely talk, but was telling me about what they did to him. I asked him, how tf could you allow people to do that to you, and he said it’s because of brotherly love and I wouldn’t understand. I said, you’re damn right I don’t understand. If one of my bestfriends started beating the shite outta me, I’d beat the shite outta him. Screw brotherly love.

I knew plenty of white frats who did the same thing, but the branding, I only heard about from black frats. All of it is pretty gay, whether you’re white or black, or male or female. Cringy and classy gang like culture is what it is. The real world doesn’t operate like Greek life.

Something tells me that Shaq didn’t take quite the beating as your normal member.

One of my friends at LSU was a scholarship RB that rarely played. He is black and he joined a black fraternity. During his hell week, he wasn’t supposed to talk to anyone outside of his fraternity or a teacher - this is back when FB players actually went to class. He had to walk in a straight line and only make right angle turns. He was branded on his arm. He sought respite at my apartment several times because they couldn’t find him there and this was before cell phones. It was odd.

You had me till that....

I was in a fraternity, there was nothing "demonic" or dangerous about it.

Black fraternities are different with their groups as they get older, and their pledge initiations tend to be a little more physical than their counterparts. When I was at Southeastern, an Omega pledge had his arm broken.

You have a lot on your mind this morning, huh? Thanks for the PSA, I’ll consider myself informed on the subject, even if it impacts me zero.

HBCUs shouldn’t exist. Pass at a real college.

And Africans shouldn’t have been enslaved and followed that up with segregation yet here we are. If black folks want to go to a HBCU, more power to them.

You do realize that there is a very legitimate reason that while a lot of people notice it, no one ever talks about it. As soon as someone from the outside opens their mouth

I think it’s funny you go out of you way to capitalize black but not white

You’re doing such a good job fighting for equality

Black fraternities are immune to scrutiny that other fraternities face daily.

I work with a black guy that’s 30-35 or so. He has a necklace with a 3 on it. He was asked about it and he said it’s his favorite number because he was 3rd in line at his fraternity. No idea what that means though.

that's a fact, and they are physically brutal to their members(or, I'm assuming, it's directed at their pledges)
