I’m okay with it being temporary while building a new arena, but I agree that any new arena where LSU plays basketball should be on campus within walking distance of dorms.

I'm sorry but there is one thing I do like about the Centroplex, which is the way it overlooks the river. Don't get that with it on LSU campus.

Really dumb idea to move off-campus. I can’t believe they’re actually entertaining this proposal.

This is an arena for a major LSU sport, it should be on campus, not downtown. It’s just a bad idea.

Where are y’all getting the idea that this would be built downtown? I haven’t seen that at all.

I have read that it would be on LSU property. Seems more likely that they’re looking at a location on (or immediately adjacent to) campus than building a new LSU-owned arena downtown. Unless y’all know something I don’t..

I would bet that the hockey team will try to move to the new Arena too.

Not that this is (or should be) a deciding factor in building the arena, but there’s no way the current FPHL team would be able to make a deal they could afford to play there.

What would be cool is if a new arena and current push for hockey laid the groundworks for a SPHL team (or return of ECHL). Hell, it could potentially be a spot for an AHL team if Houston got an expansion NHL team (yes, I’ll put the pipe down).

In the footprint of the river center. Also, the areana needs to be name after Pete. They should just gut thr PMAC and renovate it.

Why are you apologizing for this?

The Assembly Center has hosted the greatest bands in the world.

This was primarily in the 70s and early 80s before New Orleans built the Lakefront Arena in 1983 and the followed with the arena downtown in 1999. The main reason major touring acts were picking BR over Nola was because BR had right sized venue (Superdome was too big).

I think if a new state-of-the-art arena is built, BR can claw back some of the shows they have been missing out on, but it won’t ever go back to what it was.

So all these concerts the city misses out on is because the facilities? We replace one 14k seats with a new 15k seats and then BTR is a hotspot for concerts? I don't think that is why BTR misses the shows.

Not sure they can build this on the site of the River Center without demolishing everything that's there - including the convention hall. The convention hall actually needs to be expanded significantly.

I like the idea of naming it - wherever it is - after Pete Maravich.

I have the sinking feeling it will be named after Gordan McKernan though. Or maybe Raising Cane's or Walk On's.

If it's on campus, I'd like to see it right on Nicholson near the north gates, close to the PMAC. If it's off campus, I'd like to see it downtown or between downtown and LSU. I don't want it to be in the suburbs or way down at the "south campus" off GSRI.

I saw G&R in 1992 at the assembly center. Of course they did NOLA the same year. I just think the music scene in BR fell off a cliff sometime in the early/mid 2000's for whatever reason. The Caterie fire was the nail in the coffin. I'm frankly surprised that NOLA gets skipped over by big acts now as well. This should NEVER happen in a city so dependent on tourism.

You can’t be serious? The PMAC is an outdated dump with none of the history any of those other places have.

You forgot amenities.
"Outdated" "dump" you almost had the progressive trifecta for weak-arse event-goers.

G&R / Soundgarden had to be the last major rock tour that hit the area which wasn’t an oldies act like Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Most other shows I can think of subsequent to that were club level at The Varsity, Texas Club, etc.

I am just shooting in the dark here but the lack of shows at the PMAC and Centroplex of this type could be either an issue with availability (LSU sports, other events, etc) or it could be an issue with the actual promoters.

Jimmy Kilshaw and his mother, for instance, used to run wrestling at the Centroplex for years and were notorious for not having an accurate count for tickets sold. It is a running joke for old Mid South / UWF guys, when Kilshaw is mentioned, to say what the announced attendance would always be claimed to be at those shows.

If the bands know they aren’t getting an accurate count of the gate and that the venue is subpar, they will find somewhere else.

In my humble opinion, I also think they should renovate and not tear it down. Maybe that's just me being sentimental since I graduated college in that building. I think moving it off campus would be bad for student attendance.

Would need to move the Vollyball Courts and build a new Natatorium and tennis complex, but this could work pretty well IMO:

I can also see this being optimal, especially if a large, scalable arena is built on this site that can handle LSU Basketball + concerts that normally pass the region by:

But we can all agree that this is the absolute best solution.

They already built a new tennis complex.

And LSU isn’t building an arena downtown.

Build massive new state of the art pmac utilizing both old pmac and track locations.

I just did some research on this arena development. There was a RFQ posted for design build teams mid fall 2023. Seems the track will be relocated and this development is proposed where the track currently stands. PMAC demolition is not part of the scope. So it would be located oncampus and PMAC would stay, for now.

If it is on campus they need to put is by Alex Box, but if its not on campus, its hard for students to go see the games and participate. Another location is all those parking spaces by the Coastal Building or something like that.

If you had even the slightest bit of reading comprehension ability, you would realize that they are not entertaining that idea at all.
