Yeah...tell that to my wife the speedster who curses all the slow-arse Prius's in the left lane of the interstate.

I thought Prius' were hybrids, not EVs.

And Teslas will smoke 95% of the cars on the road.

Until they get the infrastructure in place on the highways and interstates for Level 3 charging, I'll be driving a gas vehicle.

That said, we are way closer to electric vehicles taking over a significant portion of the market than we are with self-driving vehicles.

I hope you’re right, because i really enjoy driving... I have no desire to ride in a self-driving vehicle in my lifetime... but if i’m taking a road trip or just a fun drive, i dont care if i’m driving a car with a combustible engine or electric, so i have no problem with electric vehicles.

And lets not forget towing, etc. Imagine needing to two something for more than a few miles...

Trains use electric motors to tow more than a few miles.

Diesel Locomotives use electricity to drive forward motion despite the name 'diesel'. A large diesel engine turns a shaft that drives a generator which makes electricity. This electrical energy powers large electric motors at the wheels called 'traction motors'.

Charge at home, work, grocery store, etc...

There will be a lot of people (women) who forget to plug in every time they pull into the garage at home and find themselves leaving work one day with 2% charge left on their car. Plus they will freak out when they see their electric bill. Cost will be a big issue with companies letting their employees plug in at work too. As for plugging in at the grocery store, would you leave a gas pump and fuel line hanging from your car out in public for 30 minutes to an hour unsupervised? I wouldn't. Some a-hole is gonna go around cutting all those electric lines attached to cars. Also it would be super expensive for the store and be a big drain on their power needs.

It would be inconvenient for me to charge at home. I park in the driveway and my wife parks in the garage.

My garage doesn't have 220 and my truck won't fit in it (or it would be within a few inches).

shite, I thought the 30 years guess was too conservative.

Things just don't move that slow anymore. Without intervention anyway.

I agree that pretty much every single one i've seen is ugly. They are trying to make them too futuristic looking.

Easy fix. Your breaker panel may even be in the garage making it even easier to install a 230 volt circuit. If they can market an electric vehicle at a cheaper cost than they are now then they will almost pay for themselves in the money you save on petroleum fuel making it easy for folks to pay an electrician if they can't pull the wire themselves.

How is this different from women like my wife who forget to put gas in their cars to the point she’s riding around with the gas gauge dinging and a message on the dash that says “Get gas now”?

I think putting a diesel generator in an “electric car” would kind of defeat the purpose.

electric vehicle tech probably isnt the only limiting factor.

you wont see a real push with this until the grid gets its juice primarily from nukes or some yet-unknown modality.

if we ever get fusion reactors in the real world and off the chalkboard, watch out

Now that i live in the Bay area with the most robust supporting infrastructure for electric and the model 3 Tesla price point has dropped in my wheelhouse, i will consider going that route when it's time to get a new vehicle.

The electric car drivers get better parking spots than OweO.
