In fairness, while most/all politicians are fakes, Trump takes it to an extreme.

Many of us (rightly, I think) believe he has no real guiding principles other than being seen as successful and bringing glory to himself. I vote for him because I'm fine with it - if he brings acclaim to himself, it probably means he did well for the country.

But I don't think he really cares about my ideology, my family, faith, or even things I think are fundamental to American/western culture.

I agree with you. I don't believe he started out as a politician, but he's learned to play the game in the last 3.5 years. He's shrewd without a doubt.

Trump is afraid of making an unpopular decision and this lack of decisiveness is holding everything up. For real issues like this that are beyond ‘ratings’, can we have someone simply provide decisive leadership in his stead?

People will decide - just like in Sweden. People were slow to get this, and we Americans are an unruly people, but they get it now. Open back up, and let people decide how much distancing they need.

Since when have we trusted dumbasses to independently make an educated, logical response to anything in this country? People on this board won’t even wear a mask to protect high risk people because muh freedom

My barber shop is opening on Monday with the following in place:

What you can expect from our team:
• Temperature and symptom check upon arrival.
• Wash hands and nails for 30 seconds upon entry.
• Masks required.
• Sanitize station and tools after each client.
• Service provider may modify service for safety. For example, we will not be offering beard trims, shaves or other services that require face to face proximity.
• Ability to decline service to any client showing COVID-19 symptoms.
• No group gatherings on the premises.

What we expect from our clients:
We are putting our trust in you and ask that you respect our precautions for the safety of our team and community.
• If you have been sick, feel sick, travelled in the past 14 days or have not followed social distancing guidelines we ask that you wait to book or reschedule.
• Please wear a mask or bring a face covering.
• Upon arrival, please call us and we will check in guests one at a time as soon as your service area has been properly disinfected.
• Be patient if we are running behind due to new disinfection procedures. This is new for all of us and we will refine as we learn more.
• Sanitize hands upon arrival.
• Unfortunately, no drinks will be offered for the time being.
• Social distance at all times. Floors will be marked in six foot increments.
• Touchless check out. Please bring debit or credit card

This is great, but businesses aren’t being mandated to do this. Most are not going to have such strict procedures, I would bet.

yeah screw freedom.

You people are miserable. Hes giving a suggestion and leaving it up to people to make decisions. The government isnt your daddy, but i get it. You need someone to hold your hand.

Right. That's what we are talking about. It was an example of Kemp leaving it up to the individual businesses on how they get back to work. As it should be.

Seeing the response from georgians, they would be too scared to go out anyway. no one is forcing you out of your home. These dumbasses have been out and about this entire time, going to places like church or the beach.

If you have concerns, then you stay home. If you dont, you were already out. This doesnt change that.

Please tell me how does wearing a mask take away one's civil liberties?

This is the problem, not the masks. It doesn't matter if you think people are stupid, they have the right to make their own decisions.

Have you even been out during this? Almost everyone is doing pretty much all this (depending on what kind of service they offer). Local govt authorities (fire marshal where I am) will be going around insuring businesses are following these guidelines. Those that aren't will be taught and rechecked. If they fail to follow the guidelines, they will be closed. Our fire marshal even has gone as far as to give temporary maximum occupancy numbers to insure distancing.

All this has been going on now since the guidelines went in place for any business that is open. Scared people are free to not open their business or to go outside if they don't want to.

Considering this is a fairly mild virus, it looks like a place that should never have closed down.

If you decide to go out and get someone else sick who is forced to go out through fear of being fired from their job, how is this liberty?

Are you contending that being forced to cover your face is not an infringement of liberty?

You could ask this question here or you could just have a single shred of historical knowledge and not be am absolute shrinking coward.

Liberty is being free to have that job or not. Though I haven't heard of a lot of employers demanding people work or else be fired, they still have the right to find a different job or have no job at all.

Nobody is forcing you. Asking people to do something is not the same as mandating you do it otherwise you face legal ramifications.

I think it's definitely a liberty issue

But I do think it's reasonable to consider the practicality of making sure we get the best value possible out of already-imposed liberty limitations.

Hypothetically, if 2-3 more weeks of shutdown would save us from going through a similar 2 month process 6 months from now, and all the societal strife that would accompany having this fight again, I think bearing with it would cause the least damage overall. I don't really think that's the choice presented, FWIW.

I want this to be a very odd blip in American history, not something repeated multiple times as to create precedent for abuse. I think maintaining the status quo to avoid a second event would be advantageous in that regard (in other words, 2-3 more weeks wouldn't significantly change the precedent of restrictions on liberty).
