Trey Prather was the QB from Woodlawn Shreveport -- his backup was a fellow named Terry Bradshaw -- who played for LSU but left in 1967 to join the Marines.

quote:
In early January, 1968, the North Vietnamese Army were massing their troops in advance of the Tet Offensive. At this time, PFC Prather served with Echo Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 5th Marines (2/5) in Quang Nam Province, helping secure the infamous Liberty Bridge. The bridge was on a major and vital resupply route for Marine and Army convoys to supply other outposts out of Da Nang. The 2/5 has an illustrious history going back to the Great War and is the most decorated unit in the entire Marine Corps.
At night the enemy would plant mines and bobby traps along the convoy roads to disrupt the resupply missions. It was a common requirement for the 2/5 Marines to patrol the roads at sun-up in advance of the daily convoys to clear the roads of mines and booby traps set the night before.
In early January, having only been in country for a little over two months, PFC Prather triggered a box mine intended for a large vehicle a few kilometers south of the Liberty Bridge. Although medevaced, he died a couple days later on January 10th, in a Da Nang Hospital.

When I arrived in Vietnam a year after Prather’s death, we Marines were told that if we could survive the first four months, we had a good chance of making it. Every single Marine, that I knew who was killed, indeed only made it three months. Hence why you didn’t like to make friends with the new guys. And Prather was among hundreds of Marines who died from booby-trap wounds — a real killer in Quang Nam Province.

Right before they got famous, ZZ Top used to play once a month at a club called The Speakeasy on Stanford, across the lakes from LSU. Cover was $5. They were clean-shaven and ran everyone out of their dressing room a half hour before every show so they could do Transcendental Meditation. They played two sets each on Friday and Saturday and stayed at The Palms Motel on Airline while in Baton Rouge.

BJ Novak (Ryan Howard)’s dad was the ghost writer of Lee Iaococca’s autobiography. He was a professional ghost writer. Which is apparently the reason the Office threw in a couple odd/random in jokes about Lee Iacocca, and (his failed invention, the Delorean).
Nah.. i mean, yes the Delorean was considered a failure in its day… but through it’s association with BTTF and the flux capacitor, most people in 2026 dont consider the Delorean a failure .. the word ‘iconic’ gets thrown around a lot these days, but the Delorean is truly iconic .

Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite movie was Smokey and the Bandit….. that’s a true story, but he was at the end of the line and probably a little senile when he said it .

Woody Harrelson's (and maybe Mathew McConaughey's) dad was a professional hitman connected to the Kennedy assassination and convicted of assassinating a federal judge.
Not merely “connected”.. more accurately, he is actually the person who pulled the trigger and killed the President .

Barry Manilow had many hit songs in his day.. most of which, he wrote himself.. One of the very few he did not write was…………. “I Write the Songs .”
It was written by Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys.

George Strait had 60 songs reach number 1 but his most famous song, "Amarillo By Morning", did not.
Another interesting fact about George's hit...it was a cover.
The song was originally recorded in the early 70's by Terry Stafford, who also wrote the song.

Dolph Lundgren holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, graduating from the University of Sydney in 1982. He also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to MIT. His IQ is around 160.
Grace Jones used to bring chicks home from the club, sometimes four and five at a time, to have group sex with her and Dolph.
Hmmm, smart man.
