re: Saturday Lunch in Lafayette
Posted by MidCityTiger on 11/9/25 at 10:08 am to MidCityTiger
For those who have responded, I thank you. We are looking for more than just a sandwich/poboy place, so that takes a couple off the board.
Looking strongly at Rachel’s and Poor Boys Riverside Inn ( I just need to get past the term “Poor Boys”!).
Any other suggestions are still welcome.

Saturday Lunch in Lafayette
Posted by MidCityTiger on 11/8/25 at 11:40 am
I’m meeting with family in Lafayette for lunch on Saturday. There’ll be 6-8 of us.
I’m looking for a place to eat, with good food, conducive to such a gathering.
We’ve been to Prejean’s a lot and Don’s as well. Would like to try something different.
Any cuisine, but not terribly expensive. Suggestions, please.
Thank you.

He was only at Jesuit because his dad was the AD at Tulane.
What the hell does that mean?
Could it be he went to Jesuit because he was living in NOLA, and it’s - by far - the best school there?
The Most Popular Man in Baton Rouge

With an injured QB and questions about whom to play and when, I am reminded of my student days when the most popular man in Baton Rouge was always the second string QB at LSU.
Predictions on Alabama- LSU Gametime?
Posted by MidCityTiger on 9/30/25 at 12:39 pm
I know this is way early, but some of you boys are really good at this.
Any predictions on LSU’s kickoff time with Alabama on November 8th?
Thanks.

In what known universe would Ole Miss not be a regular opponent for us?
Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Arkansas.

Thank you all for your answers and humor and sarcasm. I guess I was not thinking it would be on the regular SEC Network. I was thinking of some more obscure and hard to access network.
Mea culpa!
And thanks for taking the time.

How Do I Watch The Game On TV?

I couldn’t find where this was stated anywhere: can anyone provide options for getting tomorrow night’s game on TV?
Thank you, one and all.

Thanks for the clarification MB. I knew it was a former QB, but my memory didn’t serve me well on the name.
I could not believe they threw another pass in that situation. Just crazy play calling.

Wasn’t Ensminger the OC who kept Jaime Howard throwing the ball against Auburn after so many interceptions?
I remember LSU had the ball on about it’s own 40 with a 3rd and 5, and just over two minutes to go. Easy to run the ball and punt them to the 20, and challenge them to score, when they hadn’t gained 50 yards on our Defense in the 2nd half. But Ensminger calls another pass for a pick 6. Maybe the worst LSU offensive call in team history given the circumstances.
I still haven’t forgiven him for that gut wrenching loss.

I’ve always enjoyed Five Happiness on Carrollton but haven’t been in awhile.

The Mannings hate LSU - always have. They are Tiger Bait.
Why waste time giving them publicity on this board?

re: Who eats at a Hole in the Wall BBQ place.?

The best BBQ - by far - that I’ve had in BR is a Hole-In-The-Wall kind of place called Smokey Watson’s off Greenwell Springs Rd. Love their ribs, and the brisket is melt-in-your-mouth.
Ole Miss Kickoff Time?

re: Selling Baseball Card Collection

Last year, I sold all my cards with Heritage Auctions in Dallas. They were willing to negotiate their Seller’s Premium down extensively.
They went through the cards in a meticulous, detail-oriented manner. They sent many cards off for grading, if it were likely to benefit the sale. Since they send so many cards for grading, they get a much better rate than an individual collector would.
Payments to me came steadily, soon after each auction. They communicated well. Overall, I was quite pleased with the outcome.

Way before Osborne, in 1959, LSU, then #1 and on a winning streak that spanned three seasons, went for two against Tennessee late in the game. Billy Cannon was ruled short of the goal, which he refuted all his life. We lost 14-13.
Many believed LSU would have retained its #1 ranking had it simply kicked the extra point and left Knoxville with the tie.
When asked about this, Paul Dietzel said, “We didn’t go to Tennessee to play for a tie.”

The Triple Arch! I have similar memories. As I recall it burned down. I think Satterfield's, when it was open, had an old Triple Arch menu on the wall. The prices were unreal....sooooo low!
Great memories of days gone by.

Try Duke's Seafood and Steak House right off I-12 at the Bass Pro Exit in Denham. Duke does seafood the way Don's did until they went cookie-cutter chain-style and messed with their menu.
In fact, Duke ran the Don's on Airline for about 20 years before being ousted by his cousins because he refused to go along with the chain-style changes they were making. He thought they were to the detriment of his customers.
Duke's serves excellent food with very good service. It's my go-to for seafood in the area.
