(Paul) Newman served in the United States Navy in World War II in the Pacific theater. He enrolled in the Navy V-12 pilot training program at Yale University but was dropped when his colorblindness was diagnosed. He later recounted that it was "a bit more complicated" than colorblindness. He also "couldn't do the mathematical things that being a pilot requires". A subsequent test found that he was not colorblind. Boot camp followed, with training as a radioman and tail gunner. He performed poorly in that role, and a friend from the service recounted in Newman's posthumous memoir that his friends lied to Navy trainers so he could pass.

Qualifying in torpedo bombers in 1944, Aviation Radioman Third Class Newman was sent to Barbers Point, Hawaii. He was assigned to Pacific-based replacement torpedo squadrons VT-98, VT-99, and VT-100, responsible primarily for training replacement combat pilots and aircrewmen, with special emphasis on carrier landings.Newman later flew as a turret gunner in an Avenger torpedo bomber. As a radioman-gunner, his unit was assigned to the aircraft carrier Bunker Hill with other replacements shortly before the Battle of Okinawa in spring 1945. The pilot of his aircraft had an earache and was grounded, as was his crew, including Newman. The rest of their squadron flew to the Bunker Hill. Days later, a kamikaze attack on the vessel killed several hundred crewmen and airmen, including other members of his unit.

In a 2011 interview, screenwriter Stewart Stern recounted that Newman drew on an incident from his Navy years as an "emotional trigger to express the character's trauma" when acting in the 1956 film The Rack. He said that Newman thought back to an incident in which his best friend was sliced to pieces on an aircraft carrier by a plane's propeller.

He had Survivor's Guilt for the rest of his life and his widow is an LSU alumna.

Dolores Hart starred in two Elvis movies and Where the Boys are before quitting and becoming a Benedictine Nun in Connecticut where she still is today.

Hart visited Hollywood again in 2006, after 43 years in the abbey, to raise awareness for idiopathic peripheral neuropathy disorder, a neurological disorder that afflicts her and many Americans. In April 2006, she testified at a Washington congressional hearing on the need for research of the painful and crippling disease amid her ordeal.[16] Hart was instrumental in developing the Abbey of Regina Laudis's project of expansion of its community connection through the arts.

Quite a person.

Mayim Bialik has both a BS and a PhD in neuroscience from UCLA. This is why her character on The Big Bang Theory was a neuroscientist.

Queen guitarist Brian May has both a BS in physics and a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London. He was a science team collaborator on NASA' New Horizons spacecraft that did a fly-by of Pluto. Also, instead of a regular guitar pick, May uses a British sixpence coin.

When working on a movie together, a young Kurt Russell got Charles Bronson (a grown man, and a difficult SOB), a gift for his birthday. Bronson retreated to his trailer, but later called Russell over to thank him, and that no one had ever gotten him a gift before.

Bronson later buys Russell a skateboard, but when Kurt was caught riding it all-round the MGM lot, the president of the studio said it was against their insurance policy. Bronson marches into the president's office, and tells him that he and Kurt both have skateboards, and that they'll be riding them, and that's the end of that.

Russell and Bronson remaind warm friends throughout Bronson's life.

Actress Marilu Henner from Taxi fame has Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (HSAM) or hyperthymesia. She can recall nearly every day of her life in vivid detail, including personal memories, weather, and clothing, dating back to her childhood. Only about 100 people in the world have this ability. Shows you what the human brain is actually capable of.

Fun fact/Pro Dad tip:
Old British wedding tradition is for the bride to have a sixpence in her shoe for the ceremony.

Also the caring father of a bride can help her kill two birds with one stone if they beforehand gift to her an old sixpence coin as it will also serve as the “something old” requirement brides care about.
