I met him once before an LSU / Alabama game in 1979 or 80. He was getting off of a bus full of Bama fans that had come to BR and stopped at my apartment parking lot. Apparently he and several on the bus knew some people from Tuscaloosa who lived in the apartment below me. He was a character.
ETA: it must have been 1979, because that was the year they played in BR, and Shorty apparently died in 1980.

Was supposed to be stick & string but was getting too long even without the vowels and then I got distracted and just went with what I had so far. Didn’t take it too seriously at the time.
