Highlights...

1. India (1.66 billion). Will add 300m by 2050 (or almost another "U.S." in terms of population)

2. China (1.33 billion). Will actually shrink from 2030 to 2050 as population ages.

3. U.S. (398 million). Migration contributing much to the increase.

4. Nigeria (397 million). Spurred by a birthrate of 5.5 per woman.

5. Indonesia (366 million). +110 million by 2050.

At some point the earth's carrying capacity will curtail some of population growth. Some of these places aren't exactly resource rich.

I know the Green Revolution has done wonders for grain yields in both Africa and Asia, but I just find it very hard to believe that a sub-Saharan country could have an efficient enough agriculture system or the appropriate resources to support a population of that size.

If the rest of these shite countries can start instituting the one child only policy that's apparently working for China that would be great.

China has a looming demographic crisis thanks to the one child policy. Fewer workers to support a growing retiree cohort (sound familiar?) and more young males than young females, which leads to social instability. At some point China will use the tried and true method of sending its surplus young men off on foreign military adventures to keep them from getting restless at home.

I'm all for population control, but China's method is a bad way to do it.
