Popeyes Sandwich Strikes a Chord for African-Americans

But embedded in many of the catchy memes and witty messages is not just an affection for spicy seasoning and crisp breading. There’s also a sentiment that Popeyes has struck a special chord for African-Americans — specifically, that its celebrated sandwich tastes like something that could have come from a black home kitchen.
One Twitter user, @RocBoy_Mel, wrote Sunday that he did not know whose “grandma” made the sandwiches, “but I finally got my hands on one today and I was very impressed.”
In a Facebook post in August, Nadiyah Ali, a nurse from Katy, Texas, compared the sandwich to a rival’s: Chick-fil-A’s version, she wrote, tasted as if it were made “by a white woman named Sarah who grew up around black people.” The Popeyes sandwich, she added, tasted “like it was cooked by an older black lady named Lucille.”

I'm white and it strikes a chord for me. Eating it is like consuming the most beautiful rendition of Back Dat arse Up I've ever heard.

Chick-fil-a has been appropriating the Chicken Sandwich for 25 years now.
Reparations are due.
We'll take 350 popeyes chicken sandwiches as payment.

So blacks love fried chicken. Who knew?

I seen the Lucille’s one, it’s common repost, and the article left out the best part it really says something like
“By some old black woman named Lucille who doesn’t give a frick about your cholesterol because it’s in God’s hands”

Black people ...offended for decades by stereotypes involving fried chicken..now claiming the sandwich as their own. Lol the irony

They do know that fried chicken was invented by the scots-Irish, right?
But yeah the Popeyes sandwich is better

These Chicken Wars please me greatly. It can only mean good things for chicken. In a fit of epicurean whimsy, I did the Bang Bang, a.k.a. the Double Dinner, where I had both CFA and Popeye's ordered to my house at the same time, and ate each of their sandwiches back to back. Was it slovenly? Yes. Hedonistic? Yes. An example of the decadence which one day I will regret? Yes. But for the first time in my life, I was really living, you know?

Is this going to be the official food of Wakanda?

Incompletely disagree with the descriptions on this.
If anything, the skrimpy chick fil a sandwich, with no mayo, no lettuce and a smashed bun & small breast, is more in line with the description.
The popeyes sandwich looks far more sophisticated. Brioche bun. Mayo. Lettuce. Much larger chicken filet. It’s really not even close.
I don’t understand why popeyes keeps trying to brand themselves as some urban alternative to chick fil a

“We own the fried-chicken narrative,” said Nicole Taylor, who is black and the executive food editor at the website Thrillist. “Black people are turning it into a political moment.”
