Yep. The median income in America, including major cities, is a lot lower than most people realize.
Most of us are insulated from these types and folks and tend to be around above average income earners which skews our perceptions of "average" and "normal".

Honestly, I’d imagine generation X and above are people who would be most out of touch. Wages have not kept up with the inflation in college, housing market, etc we’ve seen in recent time. People who are in Gen X are working and living during this time too, but we’re able to capitalize staring their lives and families in much more financially friendly time. Their dollar was able to go further and can capitalize from that today. Millennials and especially generation Z are going to probably be the ones who are most in tuned with wages and true cost of living.

It is easier to shite on poor people and scream work harder than it is to realize the system is fricked and the corporations and elites of society are screwing us much harder.
But keep yelling at and looking down your nose at the poors. It will feel good but won't materially change your position in life.

It is not $285 PER MONTH. It is $285 total.. because it is $X (~$5) for each operating day that school was shut down. In CA, for example, the total amount of the EBT is a bit higher because they stay in school through mid June. Whereas here in LA, it cut off in May.
It is a one time EBT and will not be re-upped "monthly" or whatever you're trying to say. It is meant to make up for the meals that free/reduced students were essentially "promised" on those operating days. Lots of families rely on school meals for the time school is in session.

Anyone can get them. Under the PUA you can retroactively claim weeks and there are no checks and balances.

Folks that have never been poor romanticize the "welfare queen" / EBT life but it is pretty shitty and not something to aspire to.
Take a drive through slumloard, section 8 ville and you will see that it is shitty. Sure you don't work but you life in shitty conditions, ususally with worse health problems, and have zero quality of life.
I'll continue working and making a nice income.

And it’s naive to think what is happening in your market means it’s the same in the Florida market. Just to prove statistics don’t tell the truth, if you looked at the average income between Orlando and Austin, Orlando’s average income is roughly $3,000 more than Austin. However, Austin’s poverty rate is only hovering around 11% while Orlando is over 19%. Orlando cost of living does not equal Austin’s cost of living. The difference too is that it seems your investors are building sky rise apartments and potentially a majority of the houses are being bought by California people who are permanently relocation. That isn’t what is happening in Florida. Florida homes are being bought primarily for rentals and Disney Airbnbs. I believe it’s not even 50% of the homes in Orlando are primary residencies (just another statistic if that is the only measuring stick now).
Also, sounds like future generations who are brought up in Austin are fricked if wages don’t keep up. That or they will all just move to Houston where housing is extremely cheap still.

I guess it depends on the state because some scammer filed a claim in my name. Our HR department asked me about it and was able to deny it since I am still employed like normal.
