There will always be lazy, poor fricks in society. You can bitch and scream all you want but that won't change that simple fact.
Paying them off via cash transfers is cheaper and simpler than having them riot and disrupt society.
Keep them somewhat comfortable makes for a more peaceful society.

Poor people get a government break from an issue caused from the government = lazy do nothing assholes
Rich people getting a huge governmental breaks constantly and adding to their wealth because of it = wow such an innovative entrepreneur

Food stamps and unemployment benefits that you only get if you lost your job due to this pandemic?
He said they had 4 kids, assuming they are school age, now that they are ending school lunches, they are eligible for food stamps.
Based on the school's lunch program, not individual income based.

Nailed it. Your average OTer is just a temporarily inconvenienced millionaire or billionaire though.
When they work a little bit harder they will be rich like Bezos and Zuckerberg.

Oof. You are quite naive, eh?
Spend a year doing tax returns and you will see the abuses that go on.

What does this have to do with escaping poverty?

Poor people have no effect on the economy other than committing crimes. I would rather them have a lil extra cash, rather than having to pay for them to be housed in a prison owned by billionaires.

I have some trashy family members, they are always broke.
Wife in her 20's part time hairdresser
Husband - 30's Felon who does odd jobs painting and whatnot
4 kids
Drawing the following:
$1,500 a month in food stamps
$1,200 a FREAKING WEEK unemployment from the Government unemployment stimulus plan
$4,500 Stimulus Check
They are headed to the beach for the next 10 days, rented a car and a house.
Maybe that is exactly the way the program was intended to work. Give someone with a different value structure $10k and they put into a retirement account, kids college fund, or some other cash hoarding vehicle and the money is gone. Here the money goes right into the economy. The people who spend the largest portion of their income are the fuel that feeds the economy. People who save money suck cash out of the economy.

Pivoting again. The crux of my argument is that mutlinational corporations and the ultra wealthy do more material harm to the average OTer than welfare queens.
However, the OT loves to shite on welfare queens and suck off corporations though as the average OTer sees themselves as a temporarily inconvenienced Bezos.

The entire tea party started around corporate bailouts and yall hated then.
Seems your angst on the issue depends solely in who's doling said money.
Your ilk has a very short mwmory.

Not to count.. It would be expensive as hell to enforce the things so many here want in their utopian world. Things like entirely overhauling food stamps. There are so many millions of issues that would come up if they tried to limit what people can buy that it would cost us the taxpayers more to enforce it than it would to just slap $300/month on it and call it a day.
Just like employing people to investigate into welfare recipients closer than they already do. Its a lot of manpower and salaries and resources required to dig into that.
Like you said, sometimes it is just cheaper to shut them up.
