Most people posting in this thread have no clue about Orlando outside of Disney. Disney is Florida’s
So essentially, there are only 4 areas within Orange County that you can move to that do have failing public high schools. Those 4 areas, you can find a starter home for probably around $300k with 1500-1600 sf without needing large renovations or updates. Or you can move to lower income areas that have bad crime rates, and send your kids to private school. The housing market has taken a big hit in Orlando though with outside investors buying up properties the second they hit the market with cash for rental income because tourist will pay for it. The wages in the city have just not kept up with the rising cost of living.
I live fine. I can send my kid to an above average daycare (1,200 a month per child), keep a house over our head, and be able to do fun things for the family. But to look at the average income and think that making more than 40k is a great living in Orlando because that is the average income is very presumptuous.

You and I are not at odds. My original point was that 100k was not a lavish lifestyle.

I feel as though you are stretching the definition of mediocre to prove your point
unless you are completely retarded with money, you should be able to live an above average lifestyle on $100k in 99% of this country
I don't know how any reasonable person would consider that to be "mediocre"

People like to look at broad income and wealth statistics, point to the median, and make themselves feel better about where they stand.

And that's the reason the Government is so screwed up. I have no problem helping people that need help but what percentage of people on government assistance is gaming the system?

Gotcha. Yeah a lot of people are going to regret turning down a job so they could make a few more hundred per month for 8 weeks or whatever it is.

Personally, I don’t consider a 1500 sf lavish or great. I think it’s pretty average. Nothing wrong with that. But we are also taking only about housing market. And often, before the average person can buy that house, an investor with cash has come and bought the property to turn around and list it for rent for $2500.
That doesn’t include overall cost of living. I have lived in Baton Rouge, Houston (we technically lived in the Woodlands) , and then here to Orlando. I make by far the most here, but we still live smaller than both the previous cities just because the overall cost of living is by far the most here. But you wouldn’t see that through your online statistics that for some strange reason seems like your bible.
