Based on the school's lunch program, not individual income based.
They are eligible for a one time EBT worth a maximum of $285 per child (in Louisiana), which is the amount that would have been paid out by the government had those children taken meals at school. It isn't money that wasn't already being given.

$100k in some circles is not a lot of money, but to most of the country that is a great salary.
In the county I live $120k is the max a family of four can make if you live in government subsidized housing. Anything $120k and you are on your own. The housing authority monitors pretty closely but it’s a cat and mouse game.

Because that’s all they know. But I disagree for the most part. People are only as good as they are taught from the people closest to the. That’s the way of the world. I have seen people later in life that found a way out of that and are doing pretty good for themselves.....

Billionaires have probably done more to improve the lives of poor than any government has.

Maybe, just maybe, the government shouldn’t be in the business of giving money to anyone...
Like, imagine this: no social security, medicare, medicaid, no welfare, no unemployment insurance, no corporate subsidies, no loopholes, and none of those taxes currently used to pay for those things. The government doesn’t arbitrarily shut down the economy or pick winners and losers in reopening because it is denied that power in the first place. When people make bad decisions with their health, your taxes don’t pay for their medical care. In fact, the only things your taxes pay for are roads, schools, the military, court system, parks, police, fire protection, etc.
The best way to stop the false dichotomy of picking what group of takers the government should subsidize more, how about we just get the government out of the “paying for other people’s decisions” business entirely. Kinda like how the best way to stop segregation based on race would be to stop segregating people based on race. Sometimes, the answer is just too simple to be thought practical.
Also, income taxes should be abolished as they are burdensome to pay, labor intensive to collect, and susceptible to widespread fraud. Property and sales taxes are much easier to assess, collect, and enforce.

Unless you just don't believe anyone on earth should ever get welfare ever, your income would STILL being going here.
Stricter limits on food stamps and other benefit programs would mean thousands of more jobs, better technology, etc. It would still cost you money, likely a lot more. You think the government would decide to start tightening up on welfare and NOT charge the rest of us out the arse for it?

My problem with you is that you are only concerned with 1 side of the spectrum gaining the system.
You are trying to fix a crack in the wall, when there is an entire ceiling missing up above.
If you want to cut taxes, I’m cool with that, cut it for everyone. If you want to raise them, make everyone pay them. Sounds simple enough for me.
