Ice buildup on the wings increases drag and reduces lift

She was obviously distressed by the situation before things went bad. Talking about the ice and precipitation and asking to climb to a higher altitude. You can hear the worry in her voice.

Maybe ice forming on the plane was the cause of the turbulence she was reporting? Could that have caused a stall or loss of control?

She asked to climb to a higher altitude, which seems counter intuitive. I guess she was just trying to get out of the layer of atmosphere were the problem was. You would think a descent to warmer air over south Florida might be a better plan.

Not a pilot, but it sounds like whatever happened took place as soon as she went to increase altitude to 37,500. Is it possible she put in an incorrect input for the autopilot and couldn't figure it out?

Very sad for all involved.

At the end...does it sound like another voice in the background of the plane saying say the or my name? Or is that other chatter?

Climbing to escape icing conditions is not unusual.

Man, that's terrible. I can't begin to say how I would feel if I had been driving that car that it just missed by a couple car lengths. Talk about a new outlook on life. Sheesh!

Terrible news. Hopefully everyone on board is accounted for and there are no casualties on the ground. Prayers for everyone affected.

It has been said the plane could be anyone on board, as compared to owner....it is flown by the highest high end elites.

Not sure what she could have entered to cause a nose down plunge into the ground but I guess it’s possible.

I considered the new anti-aircraft systems around Mar-a-Lago. But probably not.
Theoretically, though, a sudden dive bomb from 30,000 feet in a minute, at the speed the plane was traveling (around 342 mph) it would have to be within .42 of a mile of Mar a Lago. I think when Trump is in residence it's a 10 mile flight restriction, but otherwise a half mile.

I know it’s like -50 at that altitude, but it seems like most icing issues are in the winter when the planes have ice before take off? It’s rare you hear about an icing issue in the summer. Weather in Austin and Florida is nice. It does look like there’s been weather in South Florida all day they damn near flew straight through.
