Rest assured this incident is basically impossible for a commercial plane.
Watch Air Disasters on the Smithsonian Channel and tell me that this never happens.

Completely get what you’re saying but planes were landing at KDJT & KBCT at the same time.
Lot of things to consider here though. One of the ones you said was Allegiant, and they fly 737s or Airbnb 330s I think? That's a completely different and more capable plane.
I also don't know their routes?
I'm not a pilot, I'm just going off of flying with friends and family. If there's any sort of weather, its a no go. Or fly earlier in the day, or the next day.
My understanding also is that some of these issues are at higher altitudes with the thinner air reducing lift. If the planes were on approach into the weather at a lower altitude, maybe its different?

I took a flight from ATL to BWi a few yrs ago on a now defunct airline (on a A321) and I swear one of the pilots couldn't have been more than 20. I made a comment to a flight attendant about how young he looked. she had no comment.
that bright yellow airline had the best safety record in the world.

only when someone is using an un-approved electronic device below 10k feet or if a seat back and tray table are not in their full upright position.

Loose paraphrase summary of the NTSB press conference
- early stages, won't speculate on cause of crash
- current weather causing issues with evidence collection
- as far as black box or cockpit voice recorders, they don't know for sure if one was in the plane, but are hoping that one exists and that they can find it intact.
- 0.4 to 0.5 mile main debris field, but expecting debris further out than that
- when asked if trying to climb in icing conditions was the (right) maneuver, he said it was "a maneuver".
- evidence of plane breaking up some before impact
- 2 pilots, 7 passengers...local authorities are responsible for releasing names
- unclear on duties of female copilot/won't speculate
- one person with an injured leg on the ground.
Then several responses that they answered that it was too early/didn't want to speculate.

evidence that the OT knows more than the NTSB

Any word on the cause yet?

NTSB guy just said at the presser that there's evidence of break-up before impact when asked about the horizontal stabilizer
Was the evidence the video showing no horizontal stabilizer when the nose touched the ground?

Call me old-fashioned, but I like my pilots to not have TikTok videos of themselves in the cockpit set to rap music. Especially when their plane ends up missile-diving into the ground shortly thereafter.

there is obviously not a direct correlation between a text ten minutes prior and the plane flying into the ground. but it does speak to her mindset and raises questions about what else she was distracted by.
How much brain CPU % does it take yall to fire a text? If yall wanna peg this on her mindset go the young route, she wasn’t bold or confident enough to speak up and voice concern over the captain choosing to pick their way through it vs spend the 20 mins to fly an extra 200 miles to go around it totally? But we don’t know what those conversations even are yet. You could be totally right and the phone was more a distraction than I’m thinking it was. It could’ve been a quick 5 second turbulence is rough but managing it text shot off and right back discussing with the captain what to do. We just don’t know yet.

People were raging last night at the suggestion that the pilot was gurlboss pilot @learjet_girl on TikTok.

not much. and she might have been 100% locked in outside of that one quick text to her boyfriend. but if i'm making a list of people that i think would have a difficult time picking up their phone and sending one single text without doing a single other thing on that phone (just a quick glance at IG or Facebook!), i'm putting 20 year old girls pretty high up.
i'm not trying to be combative with you at all. you've had some great contributions to this thread, and you could be entirely right. i just know that the text is a tickmark in the "distracted" column and not in the "locked-in" column.

The simple answer is that experienced pilots with that sort of aircraft would have never been anywhere close to that storm. I think that's really end of story.

Why even make that part of the equation in the middle of thunderstorms? It's not like they were cruising along over Nebraska without a cloud in the sky.

NTSB people love love love to show up at a press conference in their windbreaker.
It may be their favorite thing to do.

Alaska Air 261 had a jack screw failure in its horizontal stabilizer and caused the plane to go nose down into the pacific. It was a maintenance issue and not weather related.
But ice has caused lots of smaller planes to crash. One off top of my head was one in Brazil in 2024 had ice on its wing and fell into a spin killing like 60 on board.

I find this absurd. Who would allow a 20yr old to pilot any plane for them? Wild.
George Bush was flying in combat at 19 and that wasn't uncommon.
