So the person responsible for Wx, comms and navigation was texting?

"Omg turbulence," so bumpy and 10m later they crash?

Seems like 10m prior to the crash they should have been rerouting and not on they phone. But, who know's how they do now.

10 minutes before they had already rerouted around what was the perceived issue. They just happened to enter a supercell that, as reported earlier, might not have even been fully identified yet on radar on the plane.

If this is true, it's crazy that she is up there texting her boyfriend rather than navigating around the weather. Unbelievable

You better not say this. You better not.

Yes? Turbulence isn't an emergency.

I'm not going to argue that it was okay for her to be on her phone, but 10 minutes before the crash, they weren't in an emergency.

You're gonna shite your pants once you find out pilots send email and talk on the phone while flying.

Seems like these net-jet / fly-by-night charter operators popular nowadays are the AirB&B of the sky.

There's another ATC audio floating around supposedly from this same craft (unclear if same pilot/copilot) where they get chided by ATC for climbing without notifying them and claiming "moderate" chop and turbulence while while saying they can't maintain altitude. ATC is like "that's not moderate"

I would hazard a guess after all this is done that they find a poor safety culture with this outfit.

yes, ten minutes before the emergency they were making decisions that led to an emergency. i dont know how common it is for pilots to be texting in the cockpit - probably much more common than we all assume - but even though correlation isnt neccessarily causation in this case, at the very least it speaks to her headspace in the critical minutes leading up to the disaster

They're in the middle of a massive weather situation and you're cool with her breaking a sterile cockpit by texting? With 7 other passengers on board trusting you with their life?

The frick?

Both male and female pilots use their phones in the cockpit.

Oh I know they do. Leading with that would’ve had everyone gloss over the point I was trying to make.

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. Or maybe I missed this being clarified.

Her boyfriend/fiance IS a pilot, but he was not her co-pilot yesterday. Her co-pilot on yesterday's flight has not yet been identified.

If it was 10 minutes before, then it wasn't the same conditions.

Do they all text their boyfriends while navigating through inclement conditions?

Agreed 100% you can be book smart and know what should be done, but having been through real life experiences is way better than book smarts

This is how it is in real life.

Theres a big disconnect / learning curve between theoretical and how shite is in practice.

You see this when new guys get to your job / unit. They the first ones to frick up because they've just spent months / years in a classroom, passed a multiple choice test and think they know everything.

It's common. 8/10 new people you run across are like this. The ones that aren't have some special background growing up where they can appreciate danger and evaluate risk.

Yeah they weren't in an emergency situation and were in a very manageable situation until they flew directly into a thunderstorm right at the end. But with their inexperience, their fate was sealed when they turned north instead of south when they were near the Gulf coast.

No, but a lot of them call their service provider and say find me an alternate.

Correct.

So a quick text to someone would not be all that crazy...
