Maybe try this instead of the cost of replacing the head gasket?

You and your boyfriend probably broke something when attempting to change the oil on it.

Chrysler is the TEMU of car builders.
Very true. Even when running well they are on borrowed time as they seem to have universally more wear metals showing up in UOA's that pretty much anyone else. Even with proper OCI's and good oil, they just aren't built well. The Hemi's were always cheap engines too so no surprise any of their other engines are junk.

Well, that's a step up from using pepper, I guess...

Also, tech said today hydrocarbons in the fluid are very high, bad head gasket or whatever else could cause that.
Sorry man... but hey, I won the bet right?

Did you go to a dealer, where the service writers are often paid a commission?

I think you either have a bad water pump or you have air in the system. If the thermostat is bad, it should fail in the open position and you would throw a code.

Just fricking change it, moron. fricking waiting on a warning light is insane! Its what clowns do.
When idling, you should hear it engage. If not, its stuck open or closed or whatever.
Its the Gdamn thermostat if the pump is working.

Rooting for you, sorry hear the diagnosis. I would imagine the time to repair will hurt more than the expense providing you go that route.

Do you people not at least skim through a thread to see if maybe it was resolved or perhaps the same thing has been posted 20 times already before posting?

No, why would I read thru a ton of shite.
So I read some. Head gasket probably, BUT if it overheated, other things could occur.
Is aluminum involved? If so, might have to machine the heads, instead of just swapping gasket. Aluminum warps very quick under high heat
Cheers...

You can hear when a thermostat opens? That’s actually pretty impressive.

Absolutely.
Rapid Tick or Click: As a thermostat breaks, it can rapidly cycle on and off, creating audible ticking, grinding, or clicking sounds, especially when the engine is warming up.
Fan Activation: While not the thermostat itself, the thermostat opening usually triggers the cooling fan to turn on. If the thermostat is stuck closed, you may hear the radiator fans running constantly at high speed, attempting to cool the overheating

Impossible with a wax thermostat over the sound of an engine, even with a mechanical stethoscope. It opens so gradually the only sounds it will make are possibly the spring creaking or seating when the movement starts. Even if you have one in a heated box and listening to it in a quiet room as it heats up the only thing you might hear is the spring. There is no clicking and clacking; it just moves too gradually. There are different types of thermostats that MIGHT be audible, but that isn't what is on either '15 Cherokee, I forgot if the OP ever mentioned if it was a 2.4 or 3.2.

Blown head gasket all day. I had one replaced in a 2015 Chrysler 300 and it cost me $3500, that was wholesale since I'm a dealer. The jeep should be a little less, but still costly. Unfortunate, but cdjr is notorious for this. Outside chance of it being the thermostat, just not likely. Be sir to use oem thermostat, they don't like aftermarket

Agree. I never heard a thermostat open or close. This is the first time I've even heard of this idea. I've activated countless thermostats on the bench and have never heard an audible sound-and my hearing is very good.
