The movie "Free Solo" was great. I'd recommend watching it. I had butterflies in my stomach at the movie theater just watching what he was doing.

I have a buddy from college who is in this guy's regular climbing crew and also the Executive Director of his charitable foundation. They do some bat shite crazy stuff (like free soloing El Cap).

One of my friends died doing that in Colorado. Went up to the mountains without telling us his plan, slipped half way up a rock face, injured to the point he couldn't move, died of exposure.

there's a TED talk in which he discussed all the prep that went into this feat. Pretty remarkable. Essentially he was so prepared he nearly could have done this blindfolded.
