I don’t think you could go wrong with Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Liberty Park or Huntsville. If you love outdoors, definitely look in to Huntsville.
Hey neighbor!
Agree with everything posted here. I’ll add that just about anything over the mountain in Birmingham is good: Homewood, Hoover, Trussville, Pelham, Alabaster, Calera. The further away from downtown you get, the less expensive it is generally.

Ms Gulf Coast.
Lots of Louisiana Culture
Fresh seafood
Mississippi taxes
Still close to home
Great school districts
I sell a lot of homes to people moving from BR and NOLA
I can help you find one if you need

Houston is full of opportunities. Live in the suburbs (Cypress, Katy, The Woodlands) and your family can be happy.

Not sure how recently you are wanting to know, but we left 5 years ago. Lived off of Millerville.
Better job opportunities in Houston is the primary reason for us leaving Baton Rouge and the State in general, however, poor schools and rising crime were both concerns that were high on our list at that time.

Uhhh. NO. I commute an hour just to get away from this shithole.
Homelessness, trafficking, the smell in Pascagoula, ugly brown water…
You can’t be serious

Ahh, you just want to sell them a house.

My wife and I have always said we were leaving once we retire. She is now asking if we should leave sooner. I'm going to start looking at the possibilities.

People staying because they love LSU makes no sense
I don’t understand that either. I’m still here because the things I enjoyed doing were easily accomplished from BR. I had a job, friends and my weekend activities could all be done from a nice realitivly safe city. But this state has taken its toll on me. BR is beyond saving, and as I’ve aged my hobbies have changed so it’s easy to look for a place to live elsewhere.

A few years ago we decided Louisiana was only going to get worse so we took a road trip to decide where we might want to live. We wanted to stay in the southeast but wanted better weather than you get in Baton Rouge. The triangle between Birmingham, Nashville, and Raleigh has several nice locations booming with jobs and beautiful scenery. Honestly I could have been happy in a few places within that area. My kids all fought the move and within 2 months they never looked back. What they missed was the comfort of routine that wouldn’t have stayed in tact anyway (neighbors who also decided to move, schools they would have changed anyway). Any age before high school is an easy decision to me. After that I agree it makes it hard but kids adjust well.

We had limited choices due to work locations but I researched weather (feet of snow was out), COL, median income, poverty levels, amenities needed and proximity, schools, etc and narrowed it down then did vacation visits in each place.

I never thought I’d leave because of how much I love LSU
The saddest of all reasons people use as an excuse to stay in BR
Been out almost a year, best decision we’ve ever made, kids ride bikes to neighborhood schools, there’s actual community events that don’t end up with shootings, traffic doesn’t ruin your day multiple times a week.
You just have to commit and do it, you’ll never actually do it if you just don’t take the plunge. After even a couple of days out of Louisiana you’ll be kicking yourself for it taking your as long as it did

’m honestly not trying to be a jerk, but I’ve seen people say they stay around because they love LSU — I find it highly bizarre.
Ive never understood that either. LSU is probably one of the reasons I’m looking to leave BR. With traffic and how it takes up the entire Saturday. I’m fine with just watching the game at a bar or home.

Agreed, as I got older the less I tailgated anyway and I was only going to one or two games per season.
I'll certainly go the next time LSU plays in Knoxville and it's also an easy drive to Vandy, Kentucky, Georgia, and South Carolina. Auburn and Tuscaloosa are both less than a 5 hour drive, but I have been to both several times already.
And Atlanta is close if LSU ever makes it back.

My recommendation would be to do it while your kids are young. They'll get over it pretty quickly in elementary/middle school.

We stayed in the SEC so we could road trip to games also. And food is just better in the south. But now we get to see what 4 seasons is like. Woke up to 20 degrees less humidity than BR this morning.

Going to games is a bonus, we stayed "southern" so that we could still get back to see family without having to stop overnight or fly.

I moved to the suburbs of Nashville (not the super expensive ones)
I was in BR for 8 years and, at some point, living near the school I went to and cheer for really didn't mean much. The weather, traffic, crime, etc. just got to me.
Granted, I'm single with no kids - so it was a bit easier for me to up and leave. But all my family was in New Orleans (and obviously that wasn't an option), so it was difficult to move far away from them. It's been great, though. I've been gone for 3.5 years now and I don't miss it at all.
I understand why people stick around, though. Sometimes it's just circumstances that dictate things. For those who are able to leave - I'd recommend leaving and not looking back.
