Los Angeles is truly a shithole. I try not to go there unless I want great asian food.
They get there, love it and wonder why everyone says such bad things. After about 2 weeks, they can't stand the utterly shallow, fake cesspool and beg to leave.

I don't hate it. But where I grew up was a totally different place than it is now and ridiculously expensive on top of it.

1. Tons to do outside. I think my TV watching goes to an hour a week when I'm out there.
2. Weather is awesome and you can sleep with the windows open

Lived on and off in California for a couple years.
1. Without even really needing to be said, traffic. Go deal with LA traffic for a couple months and you'll never bitch about traffic in Louisiana ever again.
2. Cost of living, again it doesn't need to be said but you better be making $60k to barely survive out there.
3. Homeless people, I'm pretty sure Los Angeles is the capitol for homeless people because downtown LA is blocks and blocks and blocks of tents, cots, baskets, and people just begging for money.
After that, California is a beautiful and amazing place. I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could afford a nicer area.

Moved from Baton Rouge to Half Moon Bay and now in Austin. Thinking about moving back to the Bay. I miss the ocean, mountains, yosemite, tahoe...
I don't miss:
traffic
too many people
cost of living
state income tax
But if I move back it will be with a big salary increase so it would be worth it.

My most expensive place in California was a 2/2 condo and was $1600. San Diego County. You could easily find 1/1 under $1400.
Plate renewals go off of make model and year. I was military exempt
Traffic is only bad during certain hours.

Cali is an amazing state, it has everything you could want as far as geography. Deserts, mountains, snow, beaches, volcanoes, little bit of rainforest, tons of parks and so on. You just have to get out of the cities, away from people and away thier political agenda, which all suck balls.

Outside of the cities it's the best state in the country... but I put a heavy weight on scenery and the outdoors. No state has the varied landscapes and so much to do as CA.

Friend of mine moved to Scottsdale from L.A. (she is originally from Michigan). Any time I would meet with her she would always comment how awesome it was to have free parking everywhere here.

I fricking hate LA, but I love most of the California. Couldn’t live there though.

It was 06-11. I was stationed at Pendleton. Right in the middle of LA and SD. Of course married military has a housing allowance, but it doesn't cost 60k salary to have a nice place and have fun in Cali. That's my point.
Traffic isn't bad either unless you're on the 405 (LA) at 5-7 on a Friday. I used to make it down to San Diego in 30-40 mins.
I had nice vehicles, nice places to live and had lots of fun on a E4-E5 pay. Have plenty of pics too to prove the naysayers wrong.
