Driving up Friday 3/23, leaving Sunday 3/25. So will miss you by a day
Snagged a hotel at Pacific Beach area right on the boardwalk on the beach. I just want to be able to wake up on my 40th bday and be able to see the ocean.

Aw, so close!
My first 3 days there are solo for a conference, but got Jones a flight out there to meet me since his birthday is that Friday. Snagged a patio reservation at that popular place in La Jolla overlooking the ocean. Very excited.
This will also be the first chance to see the zoo there!

I'd rather live near west coast left leaning folk who keep their opinions to themselves than poliboard conservatives that can't go 5 minutes without engaging in political discussion.

The zoo is awesome! Wear comfy shoes cause you will do A LOT of walking, the zoo is HUGE and lots of hills.

I'm left-leaning, which probably is a big reason I don't have the burning hatred for CA that many here have.

LA is a dump and San Francisco is headed there fast. San Diego is by far the best city in the state

George's is awesome.
We had a reservation about 30 minutes before expected sunset and it was just a fabulous dinner. Had like 3-4 random couples chat us up and we stayed there for hours.
The people really are pretty laid back and friendly...and it comes off as genuine

I contemplated going to the zoo on this trip because it was 12 years ago when I went so who knows how much it has changed. And I remember loving it there. But there is so much other stuff I haven't seen yet. Why I'm considering whale watching(since it is the season for it).

San Diego is the best large city for sure.
Northern Cal (the Bay Area is not really NorCal) is basically Oregon.

Oh man, I bet. I reserved it for lunch, and some other place also in La Jolla for dinner.. but the dinner reservation is 15 minutes post-sunset so we can see sunset on the beach.
I agree about the people. Out of everywhere I go in CA, San Diego and Palm Springs have been the two with the absolute most down to earth people that I've actually still kept up with even after coming home.
As far as L.A. goes, I find the outskirts to have the best people too. Burbank, N. Hollywood, Manhattan Beach, Long Beach.. everyone is down to earth in these areas. W. Hollywood and DTLA and Santa Monica, not so much, but those areas are trendier and it is expected. And honestly, I like being left the hell alone.
