Once at a fast food joint, I was in line behind fat Lakeesha and her buddy Shareeka, and two kids were doing laps around the establishment and making a shitload of noise. After almost tripping over one of the brats, I asked a couple of other patrons if they were their kids, and they all said no, so I finally asked Lakeesha, who said they were hers. I then asked if she could please stop them from running around. Lakeesha proceeded to get loud herself, "You want me to stop MY kids from running around? I'm paying my money to be here and I'll do whatever the frick I want! If you don't like it, you can leave!" By this time, the kids had noticed their mother getting agitated and had stopped. Once Lakeesha saw this, she starting shouting, "KIDS, START RUNNING! NOW! RUN!" and they obeyed after momentarily displaying what appeared to be confusion and fear. While this was going on, grinning Shareeka had been stealthily moving around to flank me. Not wanting to be immortalized on WorldStar, I hauled arse outta there without saying another word.

Sitting within ear shot right now of a family.

Dad is sitting down and staring into his plate as he eats, zoned off from the chaos surrounding him. Mom is standing, frantically shouting orders and threats in every direction. Grandparents sit and eat, sleepy looking and blank faced. Four kids eat, smear and throw food, run around, get in and out of chairs, scream, yell, cry, knock over and move chairs, run up to and stare at other diners. Occasionally mom goes and drags a kid back to the table. One particular wretched child slaps Mom’s hand away when she tries to grab him or sit him down. The yelling and screaming is non stop.

Dear God please don’t ever let me be in such a state.
All pales in comparison to a quiet restaurant family that owns a pit bull.

And I try to clean up as much food / crayons/ napkins off of the floor before I walk out. It's inevitable with a 2 year old

I've even requested a broom and dust pan

That’s a cop-out.

This is 100% the parents fault, particularly dad’s for sitting there like a worthless turd while all this is going down.

It’s really simple. Know your child. You know if your kid is decent enough to go out to eat. If he/she isn’t don’t take him/her. My oldest two were perfectly fine and we took them out when they were very young. Our third kid was similar for the most part. My youngest? Freaking wild. I’d have to beat her tail every five minutes. Who’d want to do that? She’s almost 4 and just went to her first restaurant a few months ago.

The restaurant should kick them out and ban them from ever coming back. I'd bitch and moan until I couldn't speak anymore if I had to deal with that shite. The parents and kids both need to be airdropped over the Pacific.

For some reason I always notice kids start acting up when their parents come around. I have two little nephews and they can be as good as gold.. Acting like normal kids, playing, etc.. When their parents come around it's like they turn into monsters. I can't figure that shite out.

Kids simply act the worst around those who they are the most secure with. Basically they know that if they behave badly, mom and dad will love them anyway. Don't have that with most relatives or strangers so they tend to behave.

We have a 2.5 year old and we never know how she is going to be until we are actually at the restaurant. We set her up for success by making sure she is rested and entertained but sometimes she is perfect and other times a maniac, no rhyme or reason. Dinners are cut short and we are at the point where we are doing take out only until she mellows. Our oldest was always well behaved in restaurants from the time she was a baby which we thought was because of our awesome parenting but our youngest has humbled us in that regard.

As long a the parents are *trying* something I tend to give them some leeway. But I would not have liked a kid chewing at my table either so I get that.

At a now defunct Shoney's there was a little monster running around, putting his hands in the food at the buffet, leaning over the back of a seat and putting his dirty hands in a stranger's hair etc, his Mother just smiled.

We complained to the Manager. She commiserated and pulled out a letter from Corporate. She had thrown that monster and mother out of the restaurant for his misbehaviour the previous month; the mother complained, the letter from Corporate warned the manager that she was never to eject any family from that restaurant or she would be terminated immediately.

We never went back. It closed about seven months later. (It was in New Orleans)

Honestly, it depends on the age of the kids.
The running around part, is never acceptable regardless of age; but if a kid (1-2) is throwing a fit for whatever reason, there's a fine line between giving them what they want so they can shut up and the other guests can have a nice dinner and disciplining them appropriately which will lead to more disturbance.

Again, mainly talking about the 1-2 age range.

This may explain why I haven't seen a Shoney's for at least half a decade. Good riddance.

The alternative is he gets up pissed off and kicks your arse because you look like such a prick, so be thankful he’s got himself under control.

More places need to ban kids.

We won’t have this problem when me and Mrs hbt have kids. It will be to the parking lot for an arse whipping and if they continue then food will be taken to go. I can’t stand weak parents that try to negotiate with their kids or just let them run rough shod

Hell. My Dad would drag me my twin brother out of church and whoop our asses. We behaved after that. Those kids need discipline.
