Unless this 25k includes housing. LSU is only about 12-14k tuition and fees per year, assuming 15 hours a semester.

The oldest millennials already have kids that are at or nearing HS graduation now. Many of them are absolutely braindead when it comes to finances, mainly because they use social media as their main sources of information way more compared to Gen X/boomers.

My kids starting her senior year
All the suburban yoga moms are comparing what national schools are we visiting. So dumb
My kid wants to go out of state and it’s 55-65k with room and board and tuition per year. Can’t justify that.

My parents paid for mine so least I could do is pay for my kids. I saw the rising cost and started saving when they were born. Told them both that if they get scholarships that I’d give them the balance when they graduate.

Students need skin in the game. I knew too many that had it all handed to them that squandered the opportunity or f'd around an extra few yrs beflre eventually graduating in low ROI programs.
Besides, you can borrow for college but cant borrow for retirement. I'm glad my parents didnt over extend themselves to pay my way through college. I'm thankful for the minimal assistance they provided at a time they were finally starting retirement savings.

That’s great, no sarcasm but that isn’t the norm. I would hate to send my kids to college now. Still have one getting her Master’s and possibly Doctorate at NYU but geez! Like everything else, it’s too expensive!

I don’t think this is a fair statement. Not everyone has the means to go to college or their funding for whatever reason fell through at the last minute. Not to mention you just said it costs 25K to go….to a state school.
When I went through, my dad was just starting his company and was broke af so my grandmother paid for the bulk of my school with my jobs covering the rest. Of course we didn’t wait until day 1 of school to figure out it though
Anyway, hope your kid has a great (and safe) experience

And in all honesty, unless the kid is gonna go for something worth while and streamlined, i would talk to the kid about a different line of jobs.
Not all college degrees are bad but 75-80% of them are gonna not help with employment
