My guess is they got a nice settlement under the table.

Oh yeah.

6 zeros on that check I'm sure.

believe they (Disney) made a business decision based partially on what the bad PR of a drawn-out negotiation or civil trial would have cost them.

Kudos to the boy's family, they didn't want this process to go longer for emotional reasons.

I'd guess mid to high-seven figures possibly up to $10 mil or so.

and both sides probably saved just as much in legal fees!!!!

Kudos to Disney for taking care of this. I'm sure the family will never have to work again. Disney knew they could not afford a long drawn out court battle over whether they knew about gators or not.

Yeah, I'm sure those people would gladly move on from the horrific death of their child for some Space Mountain fast passes and hotel upgrade.

good. this society is entirely too litigious. That said, if I were to be ok with someone suing it would be the parents of a child that had their kid killed by a fricking gator at disney world.

Sure as hell better be. My daughter isn't even born yet, and I couldn't imagine that happening.

Seems like the parents would still need to sign a legal document stating they would not sue if a settlement was reached. If that were me, I would want a professional to at least review it.

10 million for each of my immediate family members and a night with anna and a night with elsa would put my signature on the dotted line.

That's probably really how simple it was. Disney knows they kind of fricked up so why would they make that family go to court? I'm sure there were millions with an "s" involved but not as shut up money. As "we know we fricked up" money.

I have not and will not ever go to Disney.

I absolutely loathe theme parks and do not want to be in a crowd of the type of people that frequent them.

I'm also never paying that much money to go to landlocked Orlando, FL. I will take my kids to Europe or something.

Then why say anything at all?

Disney made it a condition of the confidential settlement that was negotiated by the family's attorney.

In a world without lawyers and a civil justice system, do you think Disney still writes a check to the parents?

If I were the family and I thought about it, I would settle for this:

$0 for my child. $1 billion for any person killed by a gator on their property for 25 years.

Now fix it, you cheap, liberal, tree-hugging, gator-lovin' bastards.

Yeah I'm inclined to believe an attorney was involved on behalf of the parents even if they didn't bring a formal suit against Disney.

between taxes and attorneys you can safely kiss goodbye about 55% minimum.

ETA: Corrected no tax on settlements.
