My daughter was a very gifted gymnast. At 8 they wanted her in the gym 20 hours a week. I said no way. They told me if she wasnt in the gym that much beginning at this age she would never get a scholarship. She doesnt regret quitting at all. She has found she likes softball, volleyball, swimming and jiu jitsu all more than gym.

You keep telling yourself that.

Minorities and poor people get scholarships also. Happens in k-12 and college

Our friends are throwing us a baby shower at a bar at a country club for men and women to attend.
The guys are playing golf first then we're all meeting at the club bar after to open presents and eat food and drink from the open bar that our friends paid for.

If his parents are stupid then the kid will be stupid too. Works like athletics. And if the parents take that advice about athletic scholarships then it shows they’re stupid

On a related note, I live in a community with spectacular public schools. There's also a private school with marginally better academics.
Can't count the number of parents who've told me they're sending their kids to the private school, hoping the kid gets an academic scholarship one day.
Great plan. Spend $17,000/year for 4 years, which may or may not result in a partial scholarship worth ~$5,000/year.

I posted the other day in MSB about my son (8) and improving hitting with any drills or suggestions. Little fart went 4 for 4 and crossed the plate for the game winning walk off run.
He was scared shitless at all the screaming and his team mates attacking him. Now he is ate up with it. I was at work but he wanted my wife to came him to go hit and catch pop flies.
To the OP. I do not see him getting a scholarship, but I'm not discouraging him.

That's b/c all of these parents are blowing their savings on travel ball and won't be able to afford college for their kids........

The LSU womens tennis team this year only used 6 of their 8 scholarships
Thats right, two complete full rides went unused
Its a joke. If you have a daughter, put her in tennis, and as long as she can walk and chew gum she will get a full ride somewhere

It was dude's and their wives getting together at a lake house to have some food and a few drinks. There were some family members there and we all brought gifts. The new mother has been a good friend of mine since 2007. She was one of my wife's sorority sisters and she and my wife are still good friends and was in my wedding. She had a lot of pull in the UT Greek world, and despite my man-whoring she told everyone I was a good guy (which I am). I've never forgotten that. She's a saint. She's also a dime. In case it matters.
You think your boy Pecker is going to roll into some wack arse baby shower and sit there playing with doilies or something?

Parents' obsession with getting kids athletic scholarships
frick that, My cousin played baseball at LSU and his life was miserable up until college. His entire life was baseball and never had a chance to be a kid because his parents pushed him so hard. He played ball ever weekend of every summer from about 5 years old until college. He would tell me how much he was burnt out playing baseball etc. Now grant ya, it worked and he played baseball for the best college baseball team in the country but he was miserable up until that.
My kids will ride and race dirt bikes. They can practice at home and we will ride together and race together as a family. We wont have all of those practices and 500 million games to worry about.

It's lame when people brag about their kids. My pitbull is smarter than your kid and he's not gonna get hooked on heroin in 3 years

women's golf ftw, lots of hs girls turn down scholarships because the higher you move up the pyramid in girl's sports, the more dikes, and pressure to convert them to carpet munchers

It’s is so much easier for women to get scholarships due to title ix and the fact that football takes up 75 scholarships. If a girl loves a sport, there is a reasonable chance she could get a scholly.
It’s a lot more difficult for boys.
But I agree 100% that parents should focus on academics first and foremost
