Nothing wrong with a baby shower - it was a cookout. I'm friends with all those hoes that were there breh. It wasn't some homo arse gender reveal party. Which I would refuse to take part in.
Someone should do an "Animal Talk" about the modern caged American male.
Chapter one should be "Denial" and cite the above for evidence.

The only reason I wouldn’t knock it with regards to girls’ sports scholarships is that Title IX has made it so that there is a big supply of scholarships and not necessarily enough talent to fill the void.
UCONN and Tennessee may wreck shite in WBB but every team they stop is also required to hand out X schollies to serve as a rent a win.
Push academics too but being competent at any sport offering scholarships can’t hurt your chances.

For a boy though, hitting the books is the best option even if the kid is good enough to play baseball at the next level. Because baseball scholarships and every level that isn't the majors don't pay shite. There no return on investment for pumping money into travel ball and stealing your kids childhood.
100%
I learned this real quick when I had to take out loans to pay the other % of my tuition.
I have 3 close friends who were drafted, never made it to a large contract and their paychecks looked like they worked cashier at Rouses.

Bro, you haven't figured this marriage thing out. It's going to be a painful road.
She's got you. You're done. If it ends in divorce because you're too stubborn to attend a gender reveal party, it's going to cost you a ton of money, time, and sanity.

People pay big money to watch a young pro sports player play the game. People don't pay money to watch somebody read and type at a laptop.
I kid! Seriously, I agree with you. It is sad.

I guarantee there was a point in your life in which you "refused" to go to baby showers too

A 40 hour cashier at Rouse's would have made more. They would at least get minimum wage, which MILBers don't get. I think the breakdown (done by a minor league player that graduated in Econ from some Ivy League school) was that MILBers make like $3.72/hr. It's a shitty lifestyle.
It's why I think if the NCAA expanded baseball scholarships, the talent in college would improve greatly. It would be a more feasible option for a lot of guys instead of going pro out of high school.

Parents' obsession with getting kids athletic scholarships
No obsession here, but if my daughter(s) can break 80 by 16...I'm cashing out their 529's

This is a great idea for basketball. All it takes is being able to make more than 25% of your layups and you're an all star for girls basketball.

if the saying about kids height is true, about doubling their height at age 2 and that is how tall they will be as an adult, my daughter will be 6'
if I can teach her how to stroke 3s like I did...
I was a few inches too short, but a 6' chick?

I am amazed at the number of parents that spend $60,000 on travel ball and private lessons hoping their kid gets a $5,000 athletic scholarship.

yea who wants to be that dork though. If you want a bullied kid through school be this parent. Raise an alpha people, please.. for their sake

There are far more young people who get academically based scholarships, yet plenty of baws convince themselves that paying absurd amounts of money for travel ball is some kind of sound investment because it will get the kid a scholarship and a shot at big money in the pros. This is like pouring all your money into lottery tickets and acting like it's an investment. Its really all about fulfilling the parent's vicarious dreams of athletic glory. Personally I have other priorities, but i guess that's what some people idolize. Personally I would rather my kid become a successful businessman or even academic than an athlete, but I guess everyone is different.

my dad was just the opposite, I was a walk on busting my arse in college, when they finally got around to throwing me a bone there something like 11.8 scholarships to divvy out among almost 40 guys, LSU was dirt cheap back then, my dad pointed out how much money I was making in the summers and working cool jobs while in school, couldn't do that while on scholarship back then, sort of had the best of both worlds for a while
