Was at a baby shower the other day and had some people recommending the parents get the baby girl involved in sports ASAP so she can get athletic scholarships. mfw everyone acted like that was great advice

You know they give academic scholarships too, right?

Little Mikey isn't going to magically sprout good physical genetics, but if he hits the books like a champ (and isn't mentally challenged) there's little doubt he'll be able to dominate scholastically considering how far the standards have dropped.

"You should have seen Mikey hit that that deep fly ball tho. Give it a year and he'll be going yard!"

Little Mikey is 13 and can barely read, breh.

If he learns subject-verb agreement and proper tenses, he'll be ahead of Pecker for sure.

The slow death of a once independent male is painful to watch. Next thing you know he will be aimlessly walking around Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Is he special needs? Because at 13 he should read pretty well.

My kid wanted to sign up for tennis lessons so we let him. Took him to one the other day and overheard 5 different sets of parents talking and for an hour and a half it was non-stop kids' sports. I was amazed and disgusted at the same time.

irrational hope to cover the fact that they have no savings for their kids college fund.

A player that graduated from our hs and went to LSU came by to work out the other day. Our head FB coach took the opportunity to bring him in the weight room with the current team and asked him how big he was.

6'4, 355 or close to that

HC told the kids, "Now go home and tell your parents, THAT is what a college football player looks like. None of you look like that."

All this time I honestly thought you were a dude. My estimation of you just skyrocketed knowing that you are actually a chick, especially with a name like “Pecker”.

I’d rather listen to irrational parents talk about their grade schooler’s chances of an athletic scholarship for two hours than go to an ephen baby shower.

Well, there are like 60 women's bowling programs giving out 10 scholarships a piece. And that's likely to grow as more schools need to balance the title 9 scales. Plus there is women's golf that has a ton of scholarships.

For a boy though, hitting the books is the best option even if the kid is good enough to play baseball at the next level. Because baseball scholarships and every level that isn't the majors don't pay shite. There no return on investment for pumping money into travel ball and stealing your kids childhood.

It's absurd.

I have seen very few success stories with this.

The normal scenario is a scholarship at a private university where the parent actually pay more for the right to brag about the sports scholarship.

Or they go to a school they would otherwise not consider.

After one or two years, the kid transfers to a school they would actually want to attend.

Look at most women's soccer teams for example. Heavily laden with freshmen and sophomores.

It's more about the parents than the kids.

Remember where you are. Most people round these parts never make it past the glory days of high school.

Nothing wrong with a baby shower - it was a cookout. I'm friends with all those hoes that were there breh.

It wasn't some homo arse gender reveal party. Which I would refuse to take part in.

I played all the traditional sports growing up and my son has shown no interest in those, but he likes golf.

I'm excited to give him a skill that will be useful past the age of 18.

btw i don't think he will be getting a golf scholarship, just have a more useful sports skill past 18.
