We are an early bed/early rise family. 8:30 is usually the latest kids will stay up. Wife and I are usually 9-9:30.

They need the sleep, even when they're younger. My GF teaches (K), and had two kids fall asleep at their desks before lunch on the first day of school. My teen kids are out by 10 with 0530 wake ups, which is not enough IMO, but that's ex-wife overscheduling them. This results in my son falling asleep during a 10 minute drive, not paying attention to detail in school, etc.

I'm about the same age. I never had a curfew but my parents went to bed around 9:00 and it was just a lifetime habit to go to bed when they did.

Let’s talk about what time the OP should go to bed.

I think the OP should go to bed right now instead of creating such stupid threads.

Like even if the OP really has a 13 year old son (which he probably doesn’t), why would he think that Tigerdroppings is the place to ask for advice on this?

Seems wild to be telling a 16 year old it’s bed time especially at 9

It really did- but they need their sleep and teenagers aren't known for making the best decisions on their own.

I don't have a set time for mine, but she's in high school with a 4.1 something GPA. As long as she continues to take care of business and has no issues with getting up, it doesn't matter to me.

The hell? My 13 year old has to get up by 6:10 to make it to school in time.

High school bell time for us is 0715. Elementary in my district is either 0810 or 0830, Junior High was 0855.

We have to rotate the same buses across all levels. We have 46 elementary schools, 14 different junior highs, and 10 different high schools in the district.

I'm fine with the high school kids (14+) getting their feet put to the fire. Junior high teaches them they can stay up until 11-12 and muddle through, and high school rips the rug out from underneath them.

Without us setting limits for him, he actually decided for himself to shut down and put away electronics at 9pm sharp- dunno when he goes to sleep though

What else could a 17 year old guy do in the bed at 9:30?

I would watch TV until the infomercials started.

Unless it was Ron.

I'd watch all of his gadgets.
