In order to be a coherent, up with the current events adult during this time period, you would need to be at least 25+ in 1980. Which means you’re 68 or older. People that were young adults in the 80’s are now pushing 70 years old….

I dunno. Seems like some died in the Tylenol scare. If I remember right some guy was putting cyanide in Tylenol capsules. At that time “tamper proof” anything really didn’t exist. You just unscrewed the lid and pulled out a cotton ball. After the Tylenol thing, that’s when they started using tamper proof bottles if I remember right.

-Killer Bees (Africanized Bees)
-Aerosol killing the ozone layer
-Devil worshipers in the local woods killing a blonde hair blue eyes kid on Friday the 13th
-Backmasking (secret messages in records played backwards)
-Quicksand
-drugs (as in recreational drugs planted onto innocent itens to “get you hooked”)
-bomb scares (called in usually by kids who want out of half a school day)
-scoliosis (checking spines of the whole middle school in the hallway)

There was a serial rapist in BR in the mid-80's as I recall. Had all the ladies in Hickory Ridge/Shenandoah on edge.

The Widespread Panic of Athens, Georgia started in the 80s. Still going today.

I can’t even imagine what the Devil worshiper (I remember it well) stuff would have been like if Facebook or Next door would have existed back then. Every cop would have been on the lookout for the neighborhood goth kid.

As a 80’s kid the one that scared me the most was nuclear war. That movie The Day After fricked a lot of kids (and adults) up.

Later 80’s early 90’s AIDS became more in play. My mom was terrified some skank was going to give me the HIV.
