I preferred the Von Duprin Panics back in the 80s.

I just mean the music and pop culture. I don't see how it wasn't justified. They were reveling in it. Being the demonic dark lord's of satan's rock n roll. They were literally flashing devil horns and singing Runnin' With The Devil. That was as mainstream as it gets. Much darker stuff was everywhere on the fringe. I read about a guy who famously refused his big break, a major record deal because Metallica was on the label, and Metallica was satanic.

It's just cheesy though. Just kids being edgy, right. They say they love Satan, but it's not real satanism. What is real Satanism then? When does it not look cheesy?

I mean what's all the fuss. Just kids having fun. It's not like it consumed their identity, you didn't have punks and metalheads and grunges and goths everywhere right? Of course not, this has no effect on the youth. Stop being an old stiff

My mom had us believing that devil worshippers were just around the corner to get us.

Devil worshipers. I definitely remember panic about that. We had a semi rural road near where I grew up that supposedly had them.

Someone spray painted "Welcome to Hell" on the railroad track trestle. In reality it was just some bored teenagers most likely. I spent tons of time back there as a kid and never ran into an animal sacrifice

There was a really old primitive baptist church with very little signage off a dirt road that everyone called "The Satan Church" and "don't you dare go up there". So of course the teenagers go up there and vandalize it with Satan shite. Eventually the cops started staking it out and put an end to the vandalism. It was never a Satan church, but every town had to have one, and the people of my town decided it was that one for a while, during my teen years.

Eating pop rocks and drinking Coke. That's how the kid from the Life cereal commercial died.

Also, I think every town in the 80's was required to have a "Witch's Graveyard" which was usually some really old un-cared for family plot in the woods where witches and satanists would allegedly perform rituals.

GG Allen does not equal all metal bands. GG is/was a legitimate sick frick. And he wasn't all that popular except for the clown show he'd put on in small venues which usually involved him hurting himself. He sold a lot more tickets than records.

Please watch Marilyn Manson tell the story himself and understand your mother might've saved you just an edgy kid in the 80s

My dad panicked when he heard my Prince 1999 cassette. I left it in my mom’s Chevy conversion van. He threw it out the window after listening to a few lyrics from Let’s pretend we’re married.

Nuclear war and hurricanes were big fear factors of mine in the early 80’s.

Where we lived razor blades and satanism were nary a thought.

This started all that safety seal shite. I remember a bottle of pills use to just have a cotton ball on the top. Now literally everything has these fricking safety seals, all because of this particular 80's panic.

I had a shorter version but it left off too much.

He got into the edgy Satan stuff, read incantations from the necronomicon in some old satanic church in the woods, heard the literal voice of satan, went back to the church later and it had vanished without a trace, and sold his soul, had his music dreams fulfilled and became famous but also became a monster beyond what he could ever imagine. He's pretty regretful and shook up about it. That's just the story straight from him.
