Ownership, management and hiring question

My good friend, Kristen works for a management company. They essentially run the day to day operations of an asset (think hotel). The asset is owned by another company.
Kristen (management company) interviewed a number of candidates. She narrowed her selection down to two candidates that she really liked, Chaunda and Meagan. Both presented very well over the phone, in person when meeting with Kristen and to ownership when she moved them forward to be interviewed (by phone only - ownership did not see them in person due to travel schedule).
Kristen and her management company's senior executive team wants to hire Chaunda. Ownership, however, while saying "I'm not telling you who to hire" but throughout the conversation said, this is who I would hire and this is my preference wants to hire Meagan.
If you were Kristen, how would you approach this? Hire your person and take all the success and failures that come along with it, defying ownership? Or hire ownership's person, become a puppet and still be held accountable if ownership's person doesn't work out.
One caveat. There are potentially other deals in the works between said hotel management company and ownership, if this project goes successfully. If not, or if movement (revenue) is slow, there's the potential for next business partnership to completely become non-existent.

Need pics of Kristen and Meagan before I can give advice.
I don't need the ones of Chaunda though.

ownership is micromanaging the management company. This is a very bad sign.

Why does the ownership hate black people?
They are separate entities, so I'm not sure why they're meddling. One thing is for sure, if it doesn't work out with the ownership's pick..dont expect them to take........ownership of that hire.
You hire the best candidate, unless the gap is close enough to where you want to keep the ownership happy with other dealings. But only if you think that other candidate while slightly worse is fully capable of doing the job

Her job is to hire the best person for the job which in turn, would make her look good if she shines. She needs to weed out the white noise of recommendations.......unless she sucks at her job.

Not in the cards right now. Her parents have told her she must be on her own. No more accepting handouts from them.

You're right, but unfortunately this is very common in this type of industry. The owner, while they don't want to do the "managing" part of the business, certainly wants to "direct" their money and their decision onto the management company.

Hire who you want to hire. Ride your gut feeling. 90% of the time it is the right decision.
Ownership is usually disconnected to the day to day activity of thier underlings that you are more intune with. Make the right choice.

If it is my decision, I pick based on my evaluation of the talent and I make sure, post hire, that the pick gets the support they need to succeed.
But before that, I post bikini shots of both candidates on TD so that the O-T can either confirm or dispute my choice.
