It’s a Ponzi scheme that would place any of us in jail if we ran a private investment firm the way social security is ran.

It can be reversed. End welfare and foreign aid.

Yep, and any politician trying to slow down social security would get voted out. That's the issue. No politician wants to touch it.

Noone wants to pay more taxes. The slashing one would have to do to spending has no support either. You may think you want that slashing until the options are on the table. Anyone proposing same would be voted out.

Where are your farm subsidies and corporate welfare and the rest of the programs classified as income security?

Your chart includes "social security," and 80 percent of social security is retirement payments, and calling that welfare is a little flimsy.

Hey Grok, what is the revenue from federal payroll taxes?

quote:

For 2024 (calendar year or similar), estimates were around $1.71 trillion.

What were the federal government 2024 social security expenses?

quote:

The U.S. Treasury's Combined Statement and related reports show Social Security outlays at $1,460.9 billion (about $1.46 trillion) for FY 2024.

Apparently Social Security still pays for itself. It's other areas where there is overspending.

Uhhhh what tf else would you call social security if not welfare payments from the young and healthy to the old and infirm?

It was also literally created to improve the WELFARE of the elderly via payments from the young and healthy via payroll taxes.

It does not and has not for years and will only continue to get worse.

Doesn't seem like leadership from either party is actually willing to do anything about it

Interest costs are expected to reach 3.2% of the total U.S. GDP in 2026.

I did the math

If you covered the field in tiger stadium with $100 bills (including the endzones), you would need to stack it over 384 feet high to have $64 trillion dollars.

That's well over the height of the upper decks, and you would be short about 3 billion dollars. (No joke)

Trump himself is likely to add between 16 and 18 Trillion in his two terms. Obama added 8 trillion in his two terms. Biden added 8 Trillion in his single term. That’s three men adding 32 plus TRILLION to the debt. That’s insane and not sustainable.

The people in charge believe in MMT.
Modern monetary theory.
To believe in it, you have to be taking crazy pills.

Love it. One day, government charts, numbers and graphs are completely fabricated. The next, a chart, graph or report is cited as 100% gospel.

Incredible

Probably need to cut spending and raise taxes. But we still have a ways to go before it's forced

Conservative's don't exist anymore.

Always laughed at people like Hannity and Levin. "You'll never see me support a candidate that isn't fiscally conservative." Well that's absolute bullshite.

It's play money on paper now. In 10 years, the words National Debt won't exist. It will be wiped. UBI is on the horizon and if you're not in the ruling class, like me, you're fricked.

Ohhhh….. you don’t know how social security works.

There is no “paying into a system”. There are the current payers (the young and healthy via payroll taxes) that are CURRENTLY PAYING for the WELFARE of the elderly, disabled, and survivors. They do so with the hope and speculation that there will be enough young and healthy workers to pay for their social security once they reach retirement age.

Those that are currently receiving benefits (hyper majority) have paid some amount at some time for the care of the then elderly recipients.although the majority will end up taking out more than they put in. They never “paid into a system” for them to withdrawal from later.

Again. Social security is quite literally welfare. That is what they called it when they designed it. That’s what it is today.

The young and healthy paying for the WELFARE of he old, infirm, and survivors.
