I have two Luminox watches that were bought about 15 years ago. Had to replace the band on one a couple of years back. Other than that the only maintenance has been battery replacement. Sorry to hear that their quality has fallen off.

I have the 3001 series. It's a great sport watch and is extremely tough and durable. I'm not sure if I'd drop the retail - $375.00 on it though as it isn't a work/formal watch.
I'm not sure of your activity level, but if you are just looking for a leisurely weekend watch, I suggest looking into field watches as well.

Here, we'll turn this into a "find a watch for me" thread.
I'm 25 and a third-year law student. I play golf about twice per month and spend a decent amount of time in the water be it fishing or boozing in the pool. I have a dressier watch already and want an "everyday" watch that is a little more casual.
I do not have a band preference, although I am shying away from a leather band as I don't want it to get dirty and start to stink.
As for price ranges, I would like to keep the watch under $400.00 if possible.
I like simple designs, classic styles, and smaller case diameters (preferably smaller than 42 mm). I don't particularly like "flashy" watches.
Here are a few I like.
Citizen Promaster Professional Diver
Tissot PR100 Classic
AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane
Victorinox Swiss Army Original
Tissot Heritage Visodate Automatic
Laco Valencia Automatic

That's quite a range of styles.
I like Squale Squale 200 Meter and Steinhart Steinhart Ocean Red for their classic looks and ETA 2824 Swiss movements. You can wear this anywhere and the case sizes are either 40 or 42mm. Other dial colors are available as well.

I've had the Navy Seal one since 1999 and it is still going strong. Its not as bright as it used to be but it functions great. Replaced the battery a few times and I'm on my third band. Its a beast.

if you want a diver, can't go wrong with a seiko 5. i also have an orient ray (or the mako, on right below) and i love it. seems to be pretty durable, and is really a beautiful watch. i wear it both to work (business casual) and for everything else.

If only all of these nice watches are as good as my Invicta.

I think that first Citizen you posted is similar to the one I had (Promaster Carbon). It was pretty thick, but a good watch

I'd go with the SKX series over the 5, the screw down crown is going to be a little more sturdy and water resistant.

For an outdoor watch I'd consider the Suunto core all black or the Garmin Tactix. The Garmin has a tide chart, sunrise/sunset times, and GPS.

Citizen down not use a Quartz movement. It's a solar hybrid movement. Zero jewels and some plastic gear internals. Loses 20 minutes a year, which is terrible, unless you get one of the atomic models but the internals remain the same.
Victorianox uses a minimum of 30 jewels per movement. Solid build with laser cut gears all metal internals without a cap ring inside. Each movement is built for that model, not one generic movement with stability rings to keep it from moving.
Not all Quartz watches are the same. Internal components matter.
I wasn't comparing auto/Quartz. He asked a question and I gave him my opinion. Tissot and Hamilton would be the best of the two and the next step. What you have to consider with auto moments is how you going to wear them and care. I'm assuming that since this started as a Luminox conversation he's wanting a piece that will handle daily needs and also perhaps a little rugged use. With all autos you have to be committed to doing the clean oil and adjustments every two years or they could give you problems and also void any warranty the piece come with.

Had mine since about then and still clicking and still bright. I like it cause I am in the water a lot and it works well trying to see what LST is when I am out trying to slay fowl.
