they fricked up by not remembering it was a Florida registered vehicle

So they "forgot" it was a FL registered vehicle but they charged FL sales tax.

This is what E&O insurance is for.

At a mimimum... the dealer needs to call the lender and have the amount rolled into the note. Because if they did it correctly, she would have owed the money and it would have been part of a note.

But given that the finance manager can't even get his story straight... I'd tell him to piss off.

when she purchased the new car, she paid (financed) the TTL charges already. it doesn't matter what state you trade your car from.

I don't know the answer to this part, does the car have to be registered in the state you are trading it into? I would assume the answer is no, but I'm guessing.

If I'm correct you are right, if it does need to be titled in Louisiana, you aren't quite right. It would depend on rates in both locations and Louisiana rates are high as shite

no. it doesn't matter what state the car is registered. the ttl fees cover all. finance is trained to handle the transfer of title from state to state and they will charge you accordingly.

Louisiana title transfer fee from another state is $68.50

More likely they gave her the tax credit thinking she was registering the new one in Florida like the trade in. She may have decided after the fact to go ahead and register in Louisiana which does away with the tax credit. Now she has to pay the difference in taxes.

He could just be fed up with every fricking idiot on the planet spouting out dumb shite all the fricking time.

I'd say the ones with self esteem issues are those who have an answer for every damn thing they know nothing about.

The other poster who replied to you hit the nail on the head.

Too many Chiefs, not enough indians.

I see no reason to humor the unwashed masses.

Let’s be honest. The only reason you are doing this is because of her looks because it’s irrelevant to the issue. Your wife/girlfriend finds out, I don’t give a frick what you tell them, they will think they same thing.

In any event, you will not get pussy doing this. Congrats on getting used. She knows what she is doing. I understand though. Tale as old as time and we have all been there. Pussy is undefeated.

Sales tax rate in Florida without any locals is 6%. Baton Rouge is 9.95% (10% for simplicity). The tax is determined on the fair market value of vehicle when it is registered, which should be less or at least no more than what she paid in Florida. If the car was worth $40k when she bought it in Florida tax paid would be $2,400. If it's worth the same amount now, which is unlikely, total Louisiana tax would be $4,000, but she'd get the credit for the $2.4k already paid leaving a delta of $1,600.

The math on the $3,200 doesn't add up. I would guess with relative certainty they aren't crediting tax paid, valuing the vehicle at $32k.

Shes likely going to owe a little bit, but it should be like a couple hundred bucks

That's not how taxes work on vehicles.

Because she paid taxes in florida as a then florida resident, she gets zero Louisiana tax credit.

When doing her paperwork, they likely gave her 31350 for her trade, then accidentally gave her full tax credit. Which would be around 3120.

Realizing their error, they attempt to get her to pay tax title and registration on said trade in. That makes numbers clean and lienholder & state are none they wiser.

Crafty, but sheisty.

ETA: you are confusing the process for trade in vs bringing the vehicle in state for registration.

The value only matters when you attempt to register a previously registered (in your name, out of state) vehicle at the dmv. Being a trade, value is of little consequence for taxes. No louisiana title, no tax credit.
