So now, these test determine whether you go to the next grade or not?

No, the LEAP tests (grades 3 through high school) do not determine whether students go to the next grade any more.

supposed to be to make sure we're teaching the state standards. I know in kansas theyre basically worthless now. The kids just click anything to get through them so they can stare at their phones again

Data collection is the ruling class elixir. They use it to justify school privatization in order to get their hands on public money.....i.e. charter schools.Appropriately enough, charter school kids don't have to take standardized tests because that would expose how crappy charter schools are.

same as almost everything else: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Publishing companies make a lot of money. They pay off politicians to force kids to take tests.

So you're saying standardized test ARE an effective way to evaluate how good a school is performing?

Wrong. In Louisiana they do, and it determines whether they live or die. So many of them bust their arse to give the students as decent and efficient an education as they can or to try new or traditional models.

But many sadly realize there is little to be done when the average IQ of their student body might be 80 at best so they cheat.

Actually, 16 was much too high.

Bridget Green was going to be valedictorian of Alcee Fortier High School in New Orleans in 2003, only she didn't pass the state's old Graduate Exit Exam (which only covered middle-school skills). Bridget's ACT score was an 11 (lower than what you would get by random guessing).

I don't know if it was one year later or two or three, but Bridget finally passed the GEE on her seventh try and was allowed to graduate.

But, yeah, this is what happens when there are no standardized tests each year -- some teachers give out A's like candy to kids who behave and keep their mouths shut.

The original Times-Picayune story seems to have disappeared, but here's a summary of it: LINK
