OT help needed in choosing a new dog...Now NSFW

Thinking about getting a new dog for me and the SO (no pics).
Just wondering what the OT thinks is the best dog to get.
A few things I'm looking for:
1.) dog must be under $1,000
2.) easy to train
3.) must get along with other dogs
4.) must be active but not fricking crazy

If these are your only criterion, then I suggest you do more research before buying a dog.

everyone is going to make a case for their own breed of dogs in this thread.
heres mine:
Corgi - they meet your three criteria and are great lookign dogs.
i have two of them. they are smart, playful and friendly. they are great inside dogs but love to play outside as well.

Get something that doesn't shed. Thank me later.
ETA:
I have a bulldog and I certainly didn't advocate it

Snowshoed Cat ftw
Smarter than labs, just as lovable. They act like dogs. They take care of themselves.

I prefer the Welsh to the Cardigan.

Free 2 year old lab/hound mix. Spayed, chipped, all shots, fully house trained, preventive treatment for heart worm and fleas monthly. Loves people. It would be hard to give her up, but 4 dogs is much.

Get two.
One store-bought, one from a shelter.
