This is great advice if you aren't set on pure bred. I agree

Need to add the amount of energy you want your dog to have. You need to be able to give it a proper energy outlet.

Definitely don't want a dog that constantly wants to run around but then again I don't want a dog that doesn't move all day....if that helps at all

Serious question. Why?

A guy I work with has an Aus Shep and he loves it. Just have to shave them in the summer time.

I have a mini Aussie Shepherd. He is smart, has been playing fetch since he was about 4 months (now he loves swimming and fetching in the water) sitting at about the same age, very friendly and playful. Didn't take long to potty train him. Negatives would be his shedding, digging, and chewing but he is still only about 8 months old. This is him as a pup.

Most of the people I know have done this and I've only heard positive things about going that route. This is something I will look for first, but is not necessarily the make or break point for me when considering what dog I'll want.

If you do find a pure breed that you want, you can always look for a specific rescue that deals with them. My wife and I knew we wanted a Boston Terrier and were able to find a Boston Terrier rescue in Alabama to adopt from...just tossing that out there.

Golden retriever is the dog of dogs.

Don't listen to all these idiots saying labs. Too hyper, stubborn, and dumb.

A golden is the way to go.

They are great dogs. My SO's brother had one. He told me to look into getting a Blue Merle.

That's good to know. I didn't realize they had specific rescues for certain dogs

When I went to pick one out they had three this one, a all black and a blue merle. I wanted the blue merle (it was the runt) but it was a girl and I wanted a boy. It was a couple hundred dollars more too.

Beagles are awesome. Rescue one if you can. The shite that laboratories put these animals through is evil.

Belgian Malinios

I've had 2. One was half German Shepherd half Malinios, and now have a purebred Malinios from a breeder in Oklahoma. Best dog I've ever had. Will play when you want to but calms down at your command. My mom has no experience in dog training and started her out on agility courses and the dog did really well and learned fast. Probably will have many more of these dogs in my life.

Ours is 13 months.
Awsome dog: no aggression, will play outside as long as you want, smart as hell, good size (ours is 28lb) for inside compared to Goldens or Labs.

If I were to do it again, I'd get one from a Brittany rescue that was 1-3 years old. Our girl was a nut for the first 11 months, finally calming down.

Our girl's dad, she looks like this, not the Wikipedia one above.

If you want one 40-60lb, you get one from a Sporting line
If you want one 30-40lb, get one from a show line.
Ours is a little smaller than typical, she was the lightest of the pups and stayed small.
