I think it's 6.28 miles, not feet.

Eh... I've seen the error in my ways... feet, not miles

2*pi

C1=pi*d

We will work in feet.
5280 ft x 250000 mi = 132,000,000 ft

132,000,000 = pi*d
d= 132,000,000/pi

C2=pi*(d1+2)
C2=pi*(132,000,000/pi + 2)
C2=132,000,000 + 2*pi

C2-C1= 2*pi

Approximately 100,000 mi total for circumference 2.

Approximately 75,000 miles difference

The picture of earth you posted is not a globe. That’s a flat circle.

Part 2:

Assumptions:
1. A globe the size of a regulation basketball (no surface features; smooth)
2. A yellow string on the surface of the basketball at the circumference.
3. A second red string sits directly over the yellow string, but 1 foot above the surface all the way around.

Question: What is the difference in length between the yellow string and the red string?

Are you fricking kidding me? The OT is stupid. It can't figure out PEMDAS.

L1 = 2 * pi * r1
L2 = 2 * pi * r2
r2 = r1 + 1 ft
L2 = 2 * pi * (r1 + 1 ft)
L2 - L1 = [2 * pi * (r1 + 1 ft)] - [2 * pi * r1]
L2 - L1 = (2 * pi) (r1 + 1 ft - r1)
L2 - L1 = (2 * pi) ft
L2 - L1 ~ 6.2 ft

ETA: The savvy among you will notice that the above calculation doesn't ever use the actual radii directly and the only value input is the additional foot of radius...

6.28 feet

pi(D2-D1)= pi(2) = 6.28 feet

shite... Let's see if I can remember this.

There is 5280 ft in a mile so 25,000 miles is 132,000,000 feet.

So C1 = 132,000,000 R1= C1/2(3.14)

So C2 = 132,000,001 R1= C2/2(3.14)= 21,019108.4?

You sir are incorrect!

Proof the earth is not flat...

Aside from cats being jerks, clear proof of a round earth (with gravity) as if the earth were flat cats would already have knocked everything over the edge by now.

The 25,000-mile circumference was a head fake. You'll notice it wasn't mentioned in the basketball example.

Apparently you’ve never seen a math thread on the OT before. PEDMAS might as well be rocket surgery to 99.99% of posters.
